Zero chance he goes top-5 imo. Even if he did show out in workouts. He also plays the same position as Devin.

Don Harris hearing he could go Top 5 after good shooting workouts. Seems way high, but the potential is there.

The Spurs will try him at PG.![]()
Hard pass for SA unless Vassell is gone in a trade (highly doubtful). Even then, I like almost any of the other lottery wings more than Ja'Kobe tbh. But if some other dumbass team wants to take him top 5, that means somebody better is slipping.
i think he belongs to be picked somewhere between 14 and 20.
6'4, 198 pounds with a 6'10 wingspan is quite good size for a 2 and theres some potential for defense there. but potential is just potential. branham is 6'4 with a 6'10 wingspan but a garbage defender, though id say walter is more physical. his efficiency was awful, but he would take a lot of movement shots, and i know there are camps that look at volume to project shooting as well, even if the efficiency isnt there yet. the most promising part of his game was that he was able to get to the line quite a bit, and made about 80% of his free throws, so his TS% was about 54%. which while not very good, is also not as awful as you would think given his fg%
i have seen some twitter scouts have issues with his release point and release speed and think there may be concerns with his off the dribble shooting at the nba level
Can't really trust Don Harris after TSpence scooped him on the Gasol signing.
Several months ago he was in the top 10 conversation but then plummeted. He's not too different from Keyonte George, also from Baylor, who intrigued by the shots he was taking and how he got them, but wasn't actually good at making them. George is more of a PG-combo while Walter seems a straight-up SG. I feel like Walter will go a bit later than George did last year, but I feel this draft is stronger in the late lottery into the twenty range.
Do the Spurs need to trade up with the hawks to get this guy?!
If rumors of top 5 consideration are legit, it has to be the pistons honestly - you could make the argument that a team so desperate for shooting while still wanting a "bigger" shooter to keep the size advantage with Cade in the backcourt believes in Walter more than McCain, Dillingham, or Sheppard due to his size, length, and tough shot diet. It'd make very little sense, but I'm having a hard time even squinting to see any of the other teams that want him.
He was getting compared to KCP early in the year which would probably warrant a mid to high lottery pick in this draft if it wasn't for the fact that his defensive metrics look absolutely nothing like KCP's who absolutely blows him out of the water. So you've got a 3-and-no D prospect which doesn't really seem that valuable.
Keyonte George showed at least more playmaking ability, Walter was just a shooter that couldn't shoot. Eventually he can get hot like any shooter can, but didn't show anything to suggest he should go top 5. Unless he's killing the workouts, I can't see him getting top 10... even lottery would be a stretch for me.
They did just pick up the same archetype in Grimes.
Thought he was a good potential pick for SAC before they re-upped Monk. I’d be shocked by Top 5, but this draft might end up crazier than we thought.
Don Harris is only a slightly better source than Dusty Garza tho.
Spurs have always loved combo guards, it’s unlikely but nothing can be ruled out. I think it’s plausible to assume the spurs believe they can Mold a guy into what they want if they have a few skills they’re looking for.
Well I would have offered Monk more than 4 years $78 million to come. Damnit thought the Spurs had a real chance to land him.
The Spurs were never signing Monk (not their type and vice versa) and Walker (a guard-wing, not a combo guard) makes even more sense for the Kings with Monk re-signed.
The spurs drafted Lonnie Walker hoping he would become what Malik Monk now is. Just because that particular project failed doesn’t mean they have no interest in that archetype
can I get a no?
Another one who needs a few more years in college. Teams are drafting these kids too young and too raw hoping beyond hope they just get lucky.
This guy is a cross between Ja Morant and Kobe Bryant.
took me a second
I meant Walter. No, Walker IV is not the same archetype as Monk, who is a true combo guard in terms of being able to be a primary creator off the bench.
But it's not about the archetype so much as the personality. Monk doesn't fit their rigid ideals of what a Spurs is.
I mean, this guy and also his parents. JaKobe? wtf these people are dispciable
I know you meant Walter. I brought up Lonnie because you said Monk is not their type, when they were trying to turn Lonnie into a combo guard. they spent a lot of time and energy trying to develop his point guard skills so he could become what Monk is now
