Salaun at 8 would be disgusting tbh. Just as bad if not worse than the Primo reach imo. I'll never forgive PATFO if they pull that nonsense.

I really hope this Salaun fetish is just a smokescreen to get some other dumb team to take him before we do

Same, holding out hope for this. It almost seems too obvious - of course the Spurs will be interested in the French guy. Hard to imagine them letting their interest get this well-known if they were really dead set on getting him.

(This is how I’m coping, at least)

I am glad to see Reed above Castle personally. But I want both if top 3 breaks Risacher, Sarr and Clingan then the path is there for SA to get Reed/Cody or Reed/Castle:

I would say that IF DET doesnt want Castle/Cody so strongly (I don’t think they would but they may) then theres a chance.

If the draft goes: Risacher to ATL, Sarr to WAS and Clingan to HOU then SA gets Reed and calls DET and says we offer you 8 + CHI (and pick 35 if they need to) for 5.

If DET *only* wants Buzelis (which they may, but based on Trajan comments about prioritizing getting extra draft capital and using pick 5 to move back a little to do it) then it doesnt work. But it sounds like they are fine with a few guys.

They would be guaranteed one of Buzelis, Cody Williams or Castle, Knecht since SA would be taking a guy (Castle) they dont really want.

I think it would have a high degree chance of getting done IF SA was willing to offer that CHI first. It’s top 10 protected 25, but only top 8 in 26 & 27 which would mean CHI would have to stay pretty bad for 3 years. To me its a worthwhile gamble to move back just 3 spots in this draft (so you still get a top 8 pick) and worst case you got 2 2nds (which IMO is about the cost of moving back 3 spots in this draft) with a shot at a first round lotto pick

Bub can play a good two-man game with Wemby, his fit is not questionable, aside from the midget guards I would say he is the best ball screen partner for him in this draft.

Here’s my question though: if Salaun really did get a promise, who leaked it? It wouldn’t make sense for the Spurs to do so because that risks some team jumping ahead of them to get him (or else forcing Portland’s hand to take him at #7). It could’ve come from somewhere in Salaun’s camp, but if San Antonio is really their preferred destination, why on earth would they do that?

It seems logical that someone in San Antonio’s camp floated that false rumor precisely to force Portland’s hand or tempt some other team to trade up for him, in the hopes that a prospect they like more will fall. If that’s not the case and the promise is real, then it’s not a good look for someone in the Spurs inner circle to be leaking info about their true intentions.

I think it just came from the fact that he sprained his ankle working out for the Spurs and shut down the rest of his workouts.

Exactly. It's not a technical "smokescreen" if it didn't come from the Spurs directly. But the cir stances of his injury conspired in such a way that it seems to have confirmed a lot of people's priors.

I agree that’s the most likely explanation. It seems strange to me though that that info has been out for a while now, yet timvp is reporting that the rumor that the Spurs made a promise to Salaun is suddenly “spreading like wildfire.”

You can't just cancel workouts and not have other teams notice. Either his ankle really did get sprained, or it was the best option (faking or over-exaggerating a sprain) to keep him from other teams one-on-one.

If he's legitimately hurt I would understand canceling a workout. But I wonder if he's not also doing interviews with those teams? If he shut down those as well then it might be more su ious.

I wonder as well. If he/his team has gone dark, then Salaun at 8 feels all but assured. Just hoping it ain't 4

No way the spurs are that dumb to past on Castle or Reed for Salaun at 4.

God, I hope so. I wouldn't want Salaun at 8 either, but the French Connection seems sharp right now. Hopefully we could get Risacher instead if that's the way things will be.

What makes you dislike Cody Williams tbh? Just curious. I have other guys ahead of him on my wishlist at 8 but he's definitely grown on me a bit.
rail thin, plays soft, and just not seeing the upside tbh.

Im not cutting my wrists if he’s the pick at 8 like the Saluan haters but Tidjane is almost a year younger tbh, would rather bank on the younger guy with the higher motor imo

Saluan would be dumb at #4 but seems like such a no brainer at 8 given all the different cir stances. For anybody to lose their at him being drafted there boggles my mind.

Cody vs. Tidjane is a comp for sure:

One guy doesn't know how to play basketball, but runs around like a puppy dog

One guy knows where to go and how to play, but is passive as F and doesn't do anything

So you guys are all convinced that Clingon is soo much better then Edey.

I dunno, i hope Edey doesn't run into some rare good NBA coaching and become a kick ass role player.

Kessler is doing fine in Utah imo.

Wemby needs a backup, urgently imo.
I also don't buy the Twin Towers cannot work.

I think Clingan is definitely a tier above Edey, but I actually really like Edey and think he’s being underrated pretty heavily. He’s going to be a great pick in the teens for whoever grabs him.

the delta in talent between the guys around pick 4 and the guys around pick 8 is minimal. if you are ok with salaun at 8 you should be more or less ok with him at 4

    either way its awful

look maybe he becomes great but theres nothing to indicate that right now. "he has a good frame and broad shoulders" is a weak selling point

I think he’s clearly a tier below Risacher/Sarr/Shep/Castle. I’d be upset if they passed on one of those guys for Saluan.

But after that, no issues at all with a HR swing at 8.
