Hey LJ, if it's Carrington at 8 how would you feel about that? Sam Vecenie actually quite like him and according to him on a podcast, he's been real tiny until like 17 or 18 years old. Seems like a retalively late boomer, as Carrington hasn't quite figured out how to use his size to attack the rim.
I think 8 is a little bit too early for Carrington but for a team that drafted Branham and Wesley, he could be a target since he's in a similar vein in that those two were also young, toolsy, aggressive late bloomers.

Spurs have for sure done a great job at hiding their intents. There has been rumors about Spurs trading up, down, out and they have been linked with numerous players.

My realistic wish for Spurs is Castle at #4 and Cody Williams at #8.

Krysten Peek now saying Charlotte could be targeting Salaun at 6. I mean, Emily Blunt could be walking past my house right now.

I would love that and I hope Spurs are just aggressive for 2 of Reed, Castle, Risacher and Cody. Trade up to 5 with DET from 8 and guarantee 2 of those 4.

If they actually want him, we better trade up from #8 to #5 since he'll be there for them at #8.

If Houston takes Reed 3, definitely see DET-MEM swapping. In that case Dillingham at 9 makes sense.

Think I'm hoping for the Spurs to be able to pick between Risacher or Sheppard at 4 and between Salaun or Williams at 8. No necessarily pick those players -- but at least have the option of one or those players at each pick. I don't think I'll be Primo-level mad with any reasonable pick. Primo was a terrible pick because the Spurs reached for a low ceiling, low floor player in the lottery. To replicate in this draft, they'd have to do something like Furphy at 4 or Da Silva at 8
Didn’t they pick Primo precisely because they believed he had franchise player upside?

That’s my preferred combo as well. It will be hard for them to pass on Reed if he falls to 4 though.

It makes sense at 5 even if they don't trade down. It always made sense.

What’s the latest on Houston’s intentions? I’m happy with Castle but boy oh boy if Shep is there… That shooting beside Wemby would be hard to pass. I’d take Sheppard if he was there tho, prolly. Haha

Honestly, I have absolutely no idea. The most likely would be that they keep #4 and #8 but I'm just saying it because doing a trade is by design more complicate than just using your picks.

The draft is also only the first step of the off-season. I hope Spurs won't do like last summer and do nothing significant aside the draft. I have again no idea what is their plan for the whole summer.

Unless someone trades up to 3 for Clingan and Sheppard is available at 4, they should be shopping the pick to the Grizzlies for 9 + future draft capital, but won't.

Funny how the Hornets are the other team rumored most interested in Castle and all of a sudden there's reports of them taking Salaun at 6, probably in a futile attempt to get the Spurs to trade back.

I don't see them trading it, they already have plenty of future draft capital tbh

If/when the choice is between a high bust archetype or a comparable prospect + more, I'd rather the latter.

You Castle truthers can bookmark this post.

It’s going to be a long ass 4 years for me.

Rookie year, Castle shoots 30% from 3. Spurstalk: you see he improved his stats from college and he will become a shooter in the future.

Year 2 castle: shoots 32% from 3. Spurstalk: He is improving like we said he would! Buncha haters on this board and sky is falling from this pick are awfully quiet now.

Year 3 Castle: he shoots 32% from 3 again. Spurstalk: he’s still really young. It took Tony 10 years to learn how to shoot. You can’t rush the process. His form is much improved now. He’s only 23. No player ever improved once they hit 23 yuck yuck yuck

Year 4 Castle: he shoots 33% from 3 and all 4 years on the Spurs he makes less than one a game. People will be clamoring how his shot has improved and he is on the right track. He’s 24 and averaging 13, 5, and 4 and up for a contract extension… smh this might be a 6 year thing of torture for me.

The dude will never be a shooter. He will make 1.3 threes a game at most. He will be mid on defense and I’m going to have to wait 6 years for people to be on my side (the correct one) about Castle and hear all the lies how they knew he wouldn’t work out and blah blah blah. 6 years of Mr. Body telling people off for being miserable and to kill themselves.

Brian Wrong: I know you read my posts. Pick either Reed and Knecht or Matas and Knecht. It’s that simple.
I almost agree 100%, except that Buzelis is just as bad.

Castle is not a good idea. He was propped up by the insane UConn system, full of other players who executed that allowed him to look good. Not an elite athlete, not an event creator, gets absolutely ignored as a shooter.

Who cares? He's a "connector" (not sure what he's connecting on a team with one featured player and one credible shooter) and they'll sprinkle their magic pixie dust to fix his shot like they did Anderson, Murray, White, Walker IV, Samanic, Johnson, Primo, Sochan, Branham, Wesley.

If not? They can just sign the next Forbes and McDermott to be the designated shooters because it's really not that important.

I'm guessing their order of preference at 8 is: Salaun, Williams, Knecht, Carter. I think they probably like Carter more than that, but won't want to somewhat double up with Castle.

Trading Branham and Wesley for Carrington, now that would be the ticket!

Which thread is the right one for real time discussion? This one or the Draft thread? This site is teetering on crashing at any moment it seems, so I want to make sure I'm in the right place
