I wonder if the Spurs promised Paul that they'd shop him to a contender at the trade deadline. It's very doable with the contract and could get the Spurs something in return.

Spurs don't have a Steph Curry to take that slot over Paul. It wouldn't make sense to start anyone else since the Spurs don't even have a serviceable PG.

Huh? CP is a ball pounder that needs the ball to have any value on top of being an awful defender man. I hope he doesnt start - that’s a small lineup that I dont think improves that much defensively swapping out Julian for CP and hes not a volume off ball 3PT shooter either.

Compared to someone like Trae Young, CP3 is like Bruce Bowen both in terms of defense and not needing the ball.

Yeah Paul will start but I don't see it being a lock the entire season. Depends on how he looks. Spurs also don't have any bench depth outside of Keldon so they could most certainly move him to the bench at any point.

Either way, I hope we get Batum cause just signing Chris Paul seems pretty meh.

This exactly!! Paul will still be ring chasing with LeBrons play-in Lakers come April 25, while we get Gabe Vincent and a 2nd round pick at the deadline. He's just taking a short-term side-trip to SA to coach and save his legs, before chasing again in earnest.

Win/win/win.
