Yeah, sucks to hear. Hopefully he's all good. I was looking forward to this as it's my day off tomorrow, so I could have stayed up late to watch all of it and not worry about it. As long as Victor is OK, I'm all good with it.

I'm wondering if it's just routine mins management. Wemby got shelved.

Germany got blown out last time. FRA sat Wemby to give them a chance this time lol

I'm guessing Victor makes a bit of a difference.

FYI Germany is in France's group in the Olympics

It makes sense not to let them "getting used" to Vic.

Yeah, but it makes no sense to play with De Colo and Fournier who are the reason why France was so bad last year. It's always politics with Collet. He tried to play without Wemby what would be the difference, we have seen no difference from last year. Two unathletic guards who can't even pass the ball because they can't see anything. Nice choice to do exactly the same things than last year, except Wemby and... Albicy. Even Coulibaly just do the team because he's Collet's guy. You don't win like that.

I agree, I've just given up talking about Collet, if we win or have a good tournament it'll be despite of him.

But like Deschamps or Domenech before in foot he's got a job for life whatever he does...

Question for our French friends: why isn't Traore on the squad? I realize he's a kid, but they've got chuds like Hayes and Ntilikina on the prelim squad. Do us Americans overrate where Traore is as a prospect because we tend to fall in love with upcoming draft prospects, or is he still that raw? Does the French coach prefer a more veteran squad? I realize they are playing a home Olympics so there is a lot of pressure, does that play into it? I'm just trying to equate it to the biggest stages of international football where it is not uncommon to see 16, 17, 18 year olds playing in the World Cup, Euros, etc if they are that good.

Makes sense that a guy like Flagg isn't on the US squad, because the US has a deeper talent pool

As good as he is, he has the body of a 17yo but also france has a network culture before merit. Lot's of politics ...

The question is not Traoré. The squad is deep, but deep with specific profile. So it's a matter of choice. Traoré is good in offense, but not as good as Okobo for instance. He's young and yes it would be dramatic on defense as you already have these two old guards who's always targeted. I like what Strazel brings on both sides, and he's clearly better than Traoré at this stage. If you think teams or players are average in Europe, maybe it's because you don't watch enough games in Europe.

Players are drafted based on their supposed potential over the next four or five years, not their actual level. Strazel and Hifi are clearly much better than Traoré and although also young, they already have important roles in top 20 Euroleague teams. If they are not respected in the NBA, you must ask to the GMs and scouts. They're small, which is probably not in vogue in today's NBA, but that doesn't mean they're bad (and in fact, they're much better than De Colo and Fournier).

Traoré is a prospect, no one really knows his level yet and it would have been too big a risk to take him when you have so many choices in this position. The question is why Hifi is not there. Small, but great defender and he has "it" in offense, but is very needed in a team which struggle offensively on the guard positions when Victor is not there to ensure the team at least can share and pass the ball on offense (De Colo and Fournier are always targeted when they dribble far of the paint).
