I've been put of pocket on NBA news moreso than normal this past several months but especially recently, so looking for update please.

Bit confused about who actually remains on the team or in the Spurs plans at minimum given recent waiving and renunciation of rights and who among those we still want to pursue. Sadly, I see we waived Bassey as part of the Barnes trade but would like to re-sign him if he clears waivers. But we also renounced rights to Mamu, Duke Jr, Cedi, and Barlow. Thought a week earlier they had picked up options specifically on Mamu and Duke Jr.

    What gives...thx in advance.

    CP3/Tre/Wesley
    Devin/Castle/Branham
    Jeremy/Keldon/Champagnie
    Barnes/Sidy
    Wemby/Collins

    Those are guaranteed contracts.
They're probably trying to bring Bassey back to be the third string center.
Mamu or someone else for 15th spot, we need another big forward.

Ingram probably spends the season in Austin.
Sidy will too, but he's got that guaranteed deal.

We're so cluster led at the 1, 2, and 3. They draft a PG in Castle that very publicly states he wants to run the point. Yet Spurs have Tre and Wesley too but we waive Mamu and Barlow at positions of need and to relieve a jam.

    Wtf are they doing?

Good news. I'm a big fan of his. Just hope he gets brought back if he even wants to re-sign here. Not sure I would being the clear third wheel. He can shine if healthy.

Wesley, Branham and Sidy have guaranteed contracts. Waive them and you get the cap hit.
Mamu, Barlow and Bassey didn't have guaranteed deals, so we could clear cap space for CP3 and Barnes by waiving them.

Wesley probably won't play much and will be out of the league after this season.
Tre is on an expiring and I guess they'll trade him before the deadline if Castle shows he's able to run point.

    CP3/Tre
    Devin/Branham
    Jeremy/Castle
    Barnes/Keldon
    Wemby/Collins

That should be the rotation early on.
    Maybe Champagnie ahead of Branham.

Ah, didn't know Branham and Wesley would be cap hits. Thought the third year of the rookie contracts was not guaranteed (team option).

Tre and Wesley have guaranteed money, so waiving them wouldn’t affect our cap number. Mamu wasn’t waived, but his cap hold was renounced, freeing cap room for the trade. He can be re-signed any time a deal can be reached. There are three new players: CP, Barnes, and Cstle, so three players have to go. That would be Cedi, Devonte, and Barlow.

They were both first-round picks, so if their team-options are exercised the year(s) is fully guaranteed.

Both Branham and Wesley are on the bubble beyond this season. The date to exercise their fourth year option is 10/23, so unless they both show a lot of improvement it might not be picked up for either.

Which puzzles me why the Spurs choose not to have either participate in Summer League?

It gets picked up or declined after year one.

I expect Wesley and possibly Branham to get their options picked up. They have two guards on expiring deals. There's still a place for them to rise in the rotation.

True, I was thinking about adding that thought to my post. Since this could conceivably be Tre's last season and CP3 could retire at season's end.

I'm not nearly as down on both as many on ST are. They both have some intriguing skill sets, but they need to really begin to put it together this upcoming season.

Whether their options are exercised or not, both should see plenty of court time with Paul's and Vassell's recent injury history.

like most players on our roster, their calling card is being a consistent 3-point shooter...

    Castle will start in lieu of Barnes. Branham will get more playing time as the back up shooting gaurd than most people think. If Sochan doesn't rebound better and knock down the 3 ball, he will eventually be replaced with Barnes in the starting lineup. Assuming there's no more free agent moves or trades before the season starts, besides maybe bringing back Bassey and Mamu, this will be the roster depth chart to start this upcoming season;

    CP3, Tre, Wesley
    Vassell, Branham, Sidy
    Castle, KJ, Julian
    Sochan, Barnes, Mamu
    Wemby, Collins, Bassey

    BOOK IT!

Greg Pop is signed through 2028.

Hopefully ownership will come up with enough money to extend him into the 2030s.

Keeping the tank on and praying they get that second star in next year's draft, or it could get ugly.

I'm a big fan of everything but his knees. He might be out of the league though since his health is a big question mark. Could we sign him for a single year or something? He gets replaced in 2025 by either a draft pick or FA, imho (if we can sign him for a year or something).
