so that's why it's death, taxes, Spurs?![]()
And if it's thought through properly. Red McCombs ed the city so bad on the Alamodome.
so that's why it's death, taxes, Spurs?![]()
Out of curiosity, for the locals here in SA, when this comes to a vote in 12 to 18 months, is your vote a yes on this?
Absolutely!!!![]()
If it’s like last time, a hotel/ rental car tax, sure.
Owners and their puppet Stern Jr. when looking to fleece taxpayers always like to float some non committal fluffers in advance.
- NBA Commissioner Adam Silver says his league would consider expanding to Las Vegas once its new TV deal is finalized and arena developers have contacted the league for specs on building NBA-ready venues. Las Vegas, at last count, has as least three arenas that could host NBA games, but sure, building a fourth arena just for the NBA to host the fourth big-league sports team in the nation’s 40th-largest TV market makes total sense.

Do you even understand the difference between sarcasm and “fluffing”? Doesn’t seem like it.
Have no idea what you are attempting to fabricate.
The part in red means they really shouldn’t do that, via sarcasm. The speaker isn’t advocating doing it, AKA fluffing.
Hey, Genius"
This is what Stern Jr. said:

Whereas that which you colored in red was written by Field of Schemes editor Neil deMause.
Yes, very familiar with Neil and the site.
Yes, sarcasm in this article and often on his others.
You didn't do any big "reveal" or "gotchya".
You are always well informed on these issues Ex. For us non locals your voice of reason on some of these issues is very welcomed.
Get a room. It will help pay for the arena.
Personally I cant wait for the Spurs to essentially go home again, never should have been allowed to leave downtown in the first place. ing Red McCombs in the 90s and completely ing inept city leadership in the late 90s, just dropped that ball ing completely.
Wtf is texan culture![]()
Truck nutz and Trump stickers
The problem with the downtown compe ive plan was that it was a bump to the local sales tax, and that never would have passed. The county was smart latching on to the hotel/rental car tax. No one cares if out of towners pay, and it passed easily. The city leadership at the time was in the pockets of the hospitality industry.
Can somebody please help me with San Antonio needs three arenas? Why not consolidate into one and demolish the others? I'm new to the city so just trying to figure out how a city can support 3 arenas?
I used to come here frequently for conferences pertaining to my job and even then I would be like, man they have a lot of arenas here but no sports teams to support?
Is there something wrong with the current arena the Spurs play in? Also, is ownership situation now stable or is it still up in air? Thanks
I think some locals (though not a majority) complained about the amount the Spurs got from the hotel tax, wanting more of it to be directed towards local projects, education etc.
the problem with the current spurs arena is that it’s in the ghetto with nothing decent developed around it.
We all know that McCombs got Mayor Cisneros to push for a new stadium in expectation that SA would be awarded a NFL expansion team, which never happened. But curious why you think McCombs ed the city on the Alamodome?
I'll vote for it. But before the election for the Alamodome, the city put out drawings of two awesome avant garde futuristic looking multi-purpose stadiums to be built. After the election we got that POS Alamodome that was not multipurpose. So, I hope if we build a new stadium it's not some low rent San Antonio special designed by same lame ass SA architects. We really need a state of the art facility. Would love bringing in Dell or Musk as partners.
pretty sure Dell will be part of the process since he is part owner of the spurs.
The current arena is in the hood. The Alamodome is a football stadium with only a college tenant. Red McCmbs, or his estate, also own the concessions, so no professional team will ever move there.
