On Turning Japanese by the Vapors, i want to ask him to explain what he means by this:
apparently refers to a very private bedroom moment during which a man might “tighten [his] eyes and ‘turn Japanese.'” Basically, the White British band’s only U.S. hit is about a White guy using wordplay that reflects what he sees as the physical appearance of people who aren’t White and, as Hoban puts it, pairs racism with “a funky rock beat.”
Huh?
