Prospect Profile
A jumbo creator, Demon has a fascinating game that projects to translate well to the NBA. His style is more smooth than it is quick or explosive, but he’s very effective playing that way. Demin’s size and fluidity are what make him pop, given at 6-foot-8 he’s the size of a wing and will play a lot as a small forward at the NBA level, but he possesses guard skills.
When catching in the mid-range, Demin is extremely crafty. He doesn’t have to use dribble moves to generate a good look — instead, he leverages great footwork and crafty ball fakes along with an ability to rise up over defenders and his shots while fading. He’s an advanced shotmaker for his age and has legitimate self-creation upside.
Again, although he’s the size of a wing, the guard skills are evident. In fact, there’s reason to believe Demin could play guard minutes at the next levels and lead an offense for long stretches. It’s still unclear what his full-time position projects to be in the NBA, but that’s okay because versatility is a good thing. The upside as a primary creator and facilitator is certainly there if it's needed wherever he lands.
Demin is still developing his 3-point shot, but is making progress. The more he’s able to knock down those looks, the more his mid-range and driving game will open up. It will also allow him to be more effective off-ball, further enhancing his versatility.
On the defensive end, Demin plays very smart and understands how to use his length as an advantage. He’s active in passing lanes and forces turnovers even when not defending his own man. He has the ability to defend up to three positions which will allow his team to run flexible schemes.
One of the best college prospects in the country ahead of the 2025 NBA Draft, Demin has nearly every tool needed to contribute as a perimeter piece at the next level. The Russian wing is the most significant BYU recruit in the program’s history and has the pleasure of learning under Kevin Young, who is a tremendous developmental coach. BYU hasn’t had a player selected in the NBA Draft since Jimmer Fredette in 2011, but that will be changing in the 2025 NBA Draft.
If we get these two next year, then we have one of the best young cores in all of basketball, and moving forward, would be wonderful >>>>>>

Chicago is kind of a tough read. They haven’t been in the top 10 picks for the past 4 drafts, showing no inclination to tank. The four drafts before that, they were in the top 10, and drafted Patrick Williams, Coby White, Wendell Carter and Lauri Markkanen. Zero stars developed by Bulls. Maybe, unlike Detroit, they’ve learned that tanking rarely pays off, and have decided to buy stars, a la Lavine and DeRozan, cycling them out if they age or are injured. Maybe they’re doing something else completely. I just know that with the quan y of teams tanking this year (~8)it will be easier to go for the play in than a tank, using the teams trying to lose to pad your wins.
Those two years of top 8 protected are good insurance. If they unload Vul and Lavine they are a bottom 10 team for sure. Ideally, and consistent with their lack of appe e stay compe ive this pick probably conveys in 26 or 27 and still 9-15.
The thing is, there have been teams recently, OKC until they signed Hartenstein, and New Orleans currently that need pivot help, and CHI made no move in that direction.
Right now Chicago appears stubborn to attach assets to Lavine to unload him. That is the issue. As spurraider21 eluded to earlier Lavine was still an all-nba caliber his last healthy season. With him healthy I think there is a chance he gets moved early this season without giving up assets.
not to mention with the cap expected to start increasing at the max 10% level with the new media deal increasing revenue, his contract looks less and less egregious. dont get me wrong, its still bad. but if he can play at the level we're accustomed to getting from him, getting paid under 50 mil is a pretty reasonable number. the reason we've looked at his contract is abysmal has been predicated on the notion that he might be broken*
but a cap number of 43 mil this year, 45 mil next year... its not that bad if he's giving you all star offensive production with solid efficiency. over the course of the last 5 seasons, he's shot 47.5% from the field, 38.5% from 3 on good volume, 84% from the line. he's not just some low efficiency chucker
*to be fair, this is not just based on last season. for his career, his games played per season has been: 77, 82, 47, 24, 63, 60 (out of 67 that year, covid), 58, 67, 77, 23.
^ he is a good locker room guy and a prolific scorer with a sweet stroke. If we were 1 piece from true contention I’d take a flier. even if Chicago attached an unprotected future FRP and Vassell was out the door in a broader deal-to give Wemby a Robin on the wing I’d consider it.

CHICAGO -- Bulls guard Lonzo Ball said he's "full of joy" to be preparing for his first NBA game in more than two years, but he also acknowledged that he won't be the same player he was when he last took the court in January 2022. "It's not the same body I started off with," Ball said after Wednesday's shootaround. "But I think I can still be productive and effective on the court. That's why I'm still trying to play." Ball will be restricted to no more than 16 minutes in Wednesday night's [Oct. 16 2024] preseason game against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
He last played in a game for Chicago on Jan. 14, 2022. Since then, he's undergone three arthroscopic procedures on his left knee, including a rare double cartilage transplant in March 2023.
you know it's bad when even the player admits he's not the same anymore.
"rare double cartilage transplant" just sounds like an abomination of modern medicine

Lonzo is the NBA's version of the Ship of Theseus.

"That's why I'm still trying to play."
This feels like another really questionable thing to say and an indicator of where expectations should be realistically
Also LOL Lebowen I just puked
