What do you think? Can he go in the first round like Bijan?
Definitely.
I would have the Texans take him in a heartbeat and I would spend the first round pick on him. I don't care how much running backs are not valued, he's a generational player.
What a complete bull rule that allows the defense to run time off the clock when seconds are at a premium.
Did Dan Lanning Intentionally Run 12 Men On the Field vs. Ohio State As Some Sort of Advantage? (msn.com)
The time didn't run off because of the penalty. The question was if he ran 12 men out there knowing the worst case scenario would be a 5 yard penalty and that the game clock would still run as usual.
I think if he did it on purpose, my question would be why not run 13 or 14 or 20 guys out there to make sure there are no yards gained at all. I mean they still gained 5, even with the 12th man out there
The time most certainly did run off. The play started with 10 seconds.
After penalty called, next play (and final play) started with 6 seconds.
Why not 14 or 20 guys? Because the refs would spot it before the snap and no time would come off.
Refs did not spot it until Ohio State coach went ballistic and pointed it out to them during the play.
Again, "the time didn't run off BECAUSE of the penalty. "
The QB also had sort of a free play to throw it down field. If he has scored, nobody would be complaining
Watch the game!
If not then read the damn article.
"It took four seconds off the clock "
"If Lanning intentionally ran out the 12th man on the field, it was because he knew he could trust his veteran secondary to understand the assignment, know they had defenders over the top, and force the incompletion. At worst, they would give five yards — five yards that kept the Buckeyes out of field goal range — and take time off the clock. "
It's a bull rule that allows the defense to both load up with extra defenders AND run time off the clock.
What should the rule be then?
After 2 mins to go in half and end game behind team can accept penalty and put clock back.
You might want to watch it.
Howard had a player open “quick” throw to sideline at the 32 yd line.
Rule does need a change though.
All defensive penalties or just that one?
I could amend to under 1 min.
Defensive offside and holding could be viewed the same way.
I am not sure about other obvious taking a penalty to bleed the clock. Pandora’s box thing.
