Well he should tbh![]()
EXACTLY!
dude is guarding 4’s because he has problems guarding anybody with decent enough lateral quickness. His strength helps him guard a good portion of 4’s in todays NBA. He gets killed on the boards because he doesn’t box out worth a like most of our damn team.
in order for him to be able to play the 3 he is going to have to work hard on his lateral quickness to help him guard the 3 and work on his creation skills offensively. He has come a long way with his 3 point shooting and hopefully it continues throughout his career.
he was a really good pick so low in the 1st round and one of my favorite guys on the team the last couple of years due to his energy and fun nature.

So perplexing how KJ developed.
I thought he was a PG when he got drafted.
The he became a slasher that dished out bodily punishment.
Now he's also a 3 point shooter.
Hold on a sec. Were we wrong? Is Keldon gonna go ballistic this year?
It's time for his year 6 blowup
He’s better playing off others. Don’t forget that he had a season scoring 17 ppg and shooting 40% from 3.
He looks like a different player out there to be honest. Has he ever been in this kind of shape before?
In that highlight video, his style of play and number looks like Westbrook in a Spurs uni.
Super sub off the bench. That was always his destiny. Looked good this game.
one of the concerns people had when he slimmed down is he would lose the strength needed for him to play through contact, which is his bread and butter. the early results look good. more bursty but still able to play his style. need to see it translate more on the defensive end for it to really matter though
Not everybody can be a two-way player. Better he excel on the offensive end at least than suck on offense and defense like Zollins. Glad to see him having a solid preseason.
i think Zollins just needs to stop being treated as a 3 point shooter on offense. sure, if the shot clock is down below 5 and he just just wide wide open out there after having set a screen, may as well let it fly.
but the idea of him being a volume 3 point shooter (averaged 4.3 attempts per 36 last year) needs to vanish. he's just not a good enough shooter for it to be a viable source of offense for us. and he's still pretty skilled in the post and has good touch around the rim. still made 55% of his 2PA last season, had made 57% of them the year before. thats strong efficiency, and he's a solid enough FT shooter (collective 76.5% since joining SAS) for him to be a viable offensive player.
while he's no playmaker, hes a reasonable passer and you will get more out of that when he's playing closer to the basket than drifting beyond the arc. his defense isnt ever going to be great. though last year, i think Chinook was pointing out that he just pretty often seemed to be a victim of bad luck... ie he would challenge a shot, get vertical, make contact while avoiding the foul, and guys would just make shot after shot over him through contact where he kind of did everything right.
he tends to be foul prone (regularly averages 5 fouls per 36), but even in those instances where he didnt foul and contested well, guys just always seemed to score on those looks even when they bordered on circus shots. but thats also in part a function of him lacking the springiness and length to actually block shots.
i think it will be interesting to see collins/bassey duke it out for backup minutes. i hope bassey gets a legitimate opportunity to compete for the primary reserve spot, or at the very least have them come in situationally based on what the matchup dictates or what the rest of the lineup needs (do we need a scoring outlet or just someone to deter rim attempts)
He honestly looks more fluid and versatile out there. I can see him filling in for Vassell as a strong #2/3 option to start the season. He's probably going to transition into a #3 option, sometimes #2.
That's what I saw as well, a Westbrook-lite
Keldon has a chip on his shoulder first designated to 6th man, and all the trade talks, being the odd-man on the 1st unit. And it suits him well having more liberty to score as 6th man
The question is can he at least be neutral on defense. His offense was never the problem.
Love this guy.
Also, time to trade this guy.
What could he possibly bring in return?
Keldon for Kevin Huerter works straight up... can we go back to our old buddies SAC?
Probably doesn't make sense for SAC to either add Keldon or to add one more year of salary versus what they owe Huerter... happy to add in as many SRPs as they want.
We’ll see. Looks like his 3 ball is gone right now.
never going to be consistent with that catapult form
If he wasn’t so injury prone I’d say a swap for Hunter might help both teams, but even then Kelton’s contract is better value for down the road and I doubt ATL would want to add additional assets to overcome that.
The other is to go grab Cam Johnson from the Nets, but that would require the spurs adding assets.
Nice guy. I think he likes being a Spur. But his BBIQ is Westbrookian and I don’t think it will ever improve. He keeps making the same mistakes defensively and offensively.
Love the guy but I'm well past ready for his tribute video.
