On that one nearly open drive they had were Baynes altered the shot and forced a miss, I mean, Timmy if the only player we've had in years that could do that. Not even Splitter really has that skill. Put him out there and let his confidence build. Take the next 7 games to work his minutes up to the 13.6 Blair is averaging this season. Just having him out there for periods instead of the Turd towers could really help us staunch up the defense while we give Tony and Timmy a breather.
Now that trading is done for, Spurs should make that shift to just keep Blair on the bench with Baynes taking his minutes.

    BANE!!!

Tonight he actually looked semi-competent on a couple of sets, had a couple of nice putbacks, a sweet 6ft bank-hook. He'll be a strong rotation player within 3 seasons.

I'm still amazed how 250+ pounds can be so effortless and light on his feet. And he's seems pretty coordinated, athletic.

I think he has all the tools, not totally convinced yet of his BB IQ or intensity, but it's still very early.

He was on the low weak side guarding his man, and from the strong side a guy drove and threw down a dunk. Aron didn't challenge, didn't budge. hmm

To be fair, the game was over...neither team was really trying at that point.

I'd love to see him bang down low against the Grizz or another team with a big frontcourt.

    A Duncan-Splitter-Baynes rotation would be a killer!

I think you're being too conservative there, Ruff. I see him being a strong rotation player by this time next year, assuming all injuries in said time period are "niggling".

Blair should join Richards. They could dominate the Austrian League together.

IMO, based on a small sample size, his first few minutes of playing time are played timidly. He looks as if he's is playing not to mess up, then as time goes on and he gets more comfortable, and we start to see what he can be for us. I would be intimidated at first too if my first time playing in in the NBA, happened to be one of the top 3 teams in the NBA, as well as one of the most respected coaches of all time. This kind of reminds me of splitters first year in the NBA, he hasn't reached that comfort level yet and is scared to mess up. Hopefully Pop has learned from the Tiago episode and will start to play Baynes more and more. I think we could be and even better team if Baynes started to soak up Blair/Bonners minutes. This would also give Tiago and Timmy more time to be on the court together which would be a positive thing, but it also shorten our big man rotation for playoffs and allow our guys to get more comfortable with their roles now. A minute distribution of something like 30 minutes each for Tiago and Tim, 23 for Diaw and anywhere from 10-15 to Baynes depending on how the flow of the game is going. These minutes would of course change during the playoffs, and are be based on Bayne's continued growth and comfort level. Here's to hoping he starts get more playing time sooner than later.

I agree with you that he'll be getting real time next season, but I think being a "strong" rotation player will take a bit longer, much like Splitter who took 2 seasons of mediocre play to really show his NBA beast!

There is a difference between splitter and baynes in that the former is more of a finesse player. We have not seen enough of baynes to know if finesse is in that big body, but we can see that he will bang under the boards and does not take a step back from contact. This is valuable in itself. Then also take into account that he costs less than one with of splitter per year.

If we fused Baynes and Splitter together we'd get Nikola Pekovic. Imagine that.

Not like that 2014 squad was young but it seems like there's only 2 or 3 dudes still playing.

Yep, just Kawhi, Patty and cojo. Makes me sad as 2014 didn’t feel that long ago still.

I thought we re-signed Aron Baynes in 2024. Pops idea of having “vets.” Lol

I remember ecstatic getting excited over that bum Jeff Errors but Baynes turned out to be better than him. Like raider said, he held his own against Dwight and also helped us against Portland in 2014.

One of the all time worst spurstalk takes tbh. Errors was out missing dunks/rebounds/positioning but boy, that piece of sure could clap after ing up. Meanwhile, Bane was out bullying in the paint, letting Timmy get rest, and making Bible Kemp quit at life.
