While stumping for former President Donald Trump on Saturday, tech billionaire Elon Musk announced that he will give away $1 million each day to registered voters in battleground states, immediately drawing scrutiny from election law experts who said the sweepstakes could violate laws against paying people to register.

“We want to try to get over a million, maybe 2 million voters in the battleground states to sign the pe ion in support of the First and Second Amendment. … We are going to be awarding $1 million randomly to people who have signed the pe ion, every day, from now until the election,” Musk said at a campaign event in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania."

Isn't paying people, even indirectly via "sweepstakes", to register, a crime? Like, it hearkens back to signing up Irishmen fresh off the boat during the gilded age.

"Most states make it a crime only to pay people to vote, said Muller, who is also a CNN contributor. He said it’s rare for federal prosecutors to bring election bribery cases, and that the Supreme Court has been narrowing the scope of bribery statutes."

Not saying it'll actually lead to consequences. Clearly, a lot of country is ok with corruption, bribery, etc as long as it's billionaires or the powerful doing it.

The question is, is one voting because they have a chance at a cool mil? IE, registering to vote for a reason other than your civic duty. That seems like it would fall into the scope of election bribery. NAL, maybe one can chime in.

What is the Hunter Biden story?

Why would an administration revise numbers unfavorably before an election it was "trying to steal"?
