Also 2nd in rebounds. Offense is another story though

Only a few games in but Wemby is behind Holmgren in BPG to lead the league.
I noticed that OKC is winning by such a big margin and their HC having tendency to go 12-man deep, Chet's min is actually very limited.
Impressive. Matches the eye test TBH, and it’s not just Wemby stepping up either.
Wemby is obviously phenomenal on D.
Sochan is also having a huge impact on that end with his POA defense and rebounding.
Unfortunately, if OKC remains #1 in defense, they will give it to Chet.
Odds already favored Wemby before the season started, and I don't think oddsmakers even figured the Spurs to be this good as a team.
They also probably didn't think OKC would be 1st on defense either. If OKC finishes 1st, there's no way they don't give it to Chet, specially since he's leading the league in blocks over Wemby.
i mean... you say it as if there's even a remote possibility of that happening
What do you mean, that Chet would ultimately lead the league in blocks?
that Chet would be leading in blocks AND okc would lead in defensive rating.. i give it a 1/100 chance
Would love this. Feels like the Spurs have had quite a few of forced shot clock violations.
Right now it's Chets...but but but...He once had the ROY in his bag as well and the season is sooo young.
Vic, we know you are reading this. Let's make Chet the fuel that powers your GOAT career!
I don't think the voter will favor Chet as his team has too many good defenders
As long as Spurs can get a respectable record and Wemby with great defensive numbers and presence, he should still win it
The Chet rivalry is a good thing for VW. Eventually, hopefully, for team wins as well.
It is anyway way too soon but so far I agree, taking individual player defensive ratings you have 4 OKC players in the top 5 with Wallace, SGA, Chet, Williams (1,2,3,4). The story is OKC has amazing defensive guards anchored by Chet, for SA the story is you have Victor... who is having a slow start overall
Why are you acting as if any of those things would be difficult to mantain?![]()
Victors defense has been less flashy so far this season but a lot better. The impact when he's on the court vs when he's not is just absolutely insane.
Hard to say. OKC has a number of strong defenders and sometimes it spread out the votes to an extent. Like how Duncan never got it “because” of Bowen.
Spurs not having too many known good defenders (sochan may be breaking out now) may help wemby. As stupid as it sounds it may actually come down to blocks and steals.
Who's the guy in the Thunder that has the same reputation as Bowen to take votes away from Chet? Don't overthink it, if OKC finishes #1 on D, Chet's winning it.
Dorture chamber is a thing. Caruso has a reputation has well.
I agree with you that Chet has a legit shot. But OKC has other definitely has other stout defenders who can feasibly take some votes away from him.
This award is completely narrative driven. Hard to predict what is valued most by the voters in any give year.
Dort was the biggest one. Caruso got a great rep. Even Shai and Wallace are stepping up this year.
Again not saying he won’t, just not that sure it’s a slam dunk.
