I think statistically that's the least pet ownership % rate state in the country, a lot of it has to do with NYC though and high density/high pet rents and impracticality for having pets living paycheck to paycheck in a small NYC apartment, etc

It's not generally encouraged to adopt random wildlife that I recall. I can think of a couple of reasons why not -- bad for you, bad for the animal.

up north in MI/WI. Usually older empty nest couples/ older empty nest divorcees looking for a hobby beyond petting their dog and collecting government checks. I've seen it to where their dog and their deer fawns basically are playmates.
