Clippers are one of the worst teams in the league. This game was really telling - coaching is awful and our players are soft and stupid.
Harden's post defense is one of the few things he's always done fairly well, he's strong as and can really plant his ass and use leverage.
His worst defensive lowlights are him falling asleep and losing his man or giving up at the perimeter point of attack
No surprise that Wemby would have problems there
It's been the case for so long I have zero hope with this coaching staff
He needs to work on his stability and develop a go-to move in the post. Then he needs to learn to shoot.
Funny you about nursing home Pop when he's the one who has been allowing Victor to play this trash offensive game he has been reverting too. Frustrating seeing him not take advantage of James Harden on him and instead run out to the three point line to take garbage shots he cannot hit.
Defenses gonna keep feasting on Wemby playing passively. I don’t care if he misses every shot in the post, start taking those smaller guys on
Yea same happend with few games ago.
He was good in the post last year. He needs to slow the down and stop being in such a rush. Dude kept playing hot potato with the ball every time he got it down low. You either shoot over your man or you wait for the double so someone gets an open three.
His offense actually looks worse than last year.
Think some people here are being a little harsh re: Wemby’s performance. No, he wasn’t as good as his raw counting stats would suggest but I also don’t think he was as bad as his -21 suggests.
He was pretty awful from a scoring standpoint but felt like he made plenty of great reads and passes to create for others (3 assists don’t do him justice in this department IMO). He also at least took care of the ball for the most part as opposed to some of those 4-5+ TO games we’ve seen from him.
Defensively he was unreal in terms of shutting down the paint. He was so good that it really feels like it backfired: LAC just stopped trying to get into the paint and started shooting (and making) 3s at a ridiculous clip.
So yeah…not arguing that he was incredible or anything but putting this whole loss on him or acting like he was garbage is sort of going too far the other way. Not disputing this start to the year has been brutal for him offensively though.
this L is on wemby & the coaching.
wemby can have a mismatch and the defender can still prevent wemby from being in an opportune position.
Which is why I cannot take the narrative that we have a top3-5 defense seriously. I haven't seen a game this season, let alone last season, where we didn't just give up 3pt shots and prayed for the best.
He needs to be a better decision maker for sure. I feel like he'll catch on pretty quick though after another 10-15 games. Not having Vassell is a big deal too because it opens up the floor more.
It's hard to understand if he can't or refuses.
Putting him next to Brahman Champ and Keldon to start the 2nd might not have been the smartest thing either
It's on both sides, this roster doesn't help him and he's acting like a spoiled child on offense

Wemby's offense was trash, but if he has to carry the offense against these Clippers, then we're better off getting another high lottery pick.
Without Wemby's defense this would have been 40-pt blowout loss.

His offense was not up to par but the defense more than made up for it.

Hope he gets called out on it tbh. I see Wemby as a dude to respond positively to harsh criticism. The problem is he's San Antonio's golden boy albeit rightfully so.
Yep, in part imo bc of Paul who took away part of his playmaking and defenses who got the blue print on the physicality

Sure does. A rookie who's trying to do too much. His outside shooting is woeful, his handles are sub par, his vision/passing is terrible and his rebounding is lackluster given his size.
i don't disagree about the roster.
but like you said, half the roation aren't NBA players... who do you expect to carry the offense?
Just got back from watching the game with a co-worker. After the first quarter I was telling him we’d probably lose and how I had a front row seat when Tatum went for 60 and led the largest comeback in Celtics history against us… but I was kidding.
This was ing embarrassing to watch.
Keldon was nowhere to be seen after the first quarter.
Barnes got frozen out and never even got the ball.
Branham got it way more than he should since he's useless.
Collins played most minutes against Batum at C and scored 0 points.
Keldon and Collins earn like 35 million combined, 30% of the cap.
Literally dead weight.
Mugen got to see the Clips get their first win in that arena. Hope you had fun

It's tough to ask a kid to do more on offense considering what he does on defense tbh
Reading the thread, some seem really mad at him and already taking for granted his ridiculous defense and the energy he spends on that side of the court.
He needs to change as much as he needs to be put in better situations. The coaching and linups were horrodous tonight and we've seen countless dumb plays/decisions by a lot of players
I don't mind the pullup threes in transition. Last year he showed he was elite at it. But in the halfcourt the constant running to the three point line for catch and shoot threes that he only shot 28% on last year and is way worse this year is terrible to watch. I know he thinks he's 7'4" Durant or 7'4" Kobe but those guys could catch and shoot. Victor has never shown an ability to do so.
