Mac Daniels, Ant, Nazz Reed. Neither took votes away from Gobbert.
The Wolves had about the same number of stout defenders, yet none took votes away from Gobbert.

As I said, narrative based. Voters were bent on giving it to the best defender on the best defense last year. And the were deaf to all other arguments.
This is not always the case. The narrative for this year will we decided around February/March.
If the best defense ends up being the Wolves again, I can see voters' fatigue playing a part. If it's OKC, voters would be more than happy giving it to one of the new shiny toys in Chet. It would also add to the Wemby/Chet rivalry.
Good point. But nas Reid isn’t a good DPoY. I’d also add Nikael Alexander walker.
That said, covert was penned in last year, not sure why.
if spurs are top 10 in defensive rating, wemby is winning unanimously
No if OKC finishes #1 on D. Wanna bet something?
i'd bet a grand easily
Ok, if OKC finishes #1 on D and the Spurs finish top 10:
-You get $1.000 if Wemby wins DPoY
-I get $1.000 if Chet wins DPoY
Still early but Wemby's BPG is now 3.9, SPG at 1.3.
Chet is at 3.1 BPG and 1.1 SPG.
As elementary a stat as you can find but still one more readily referred to when deciding DPOY (except last year).
Again, the prevailing narrative heading into this season is that things will finally be set right after last season and Wemby will get his first DPOY.
Odds favored him and I am pretty sure none of the oddsmakers predicted the Spurs to be Top 5 defensively either.
And just like that, Wemby is back in his rightful place as the NBA's leading shot blocker.

Great defensive performance from victor.Sucks we lost tho.Hes gotten better with not falling for jump fakes and not fouling.
sounds good to me... won't happen of course
He's still a work in progress offensively but I don't think there's anyone in the league that equals his impact on the other end.
As someone said, he was so good it kinda backfired since the Clippers just opted to leave the lane entirely and go chuck up threes - which (thanks to both coaching and player malaise) unfortunately went in.
wemby back to averaging 4 blocks a game.Sucks we lost today tho.
It's amazing how little Wembustyama's stat padding translates to winning basketball. You shouldn't be losing to the 1-7 Jazz at home, regardless of how bad the sperms roster is.
Total destroyer on defense. I think 4 blocks a game is sustainable, as he is learning to not bite on fakes easily this time.
Hopefully the Spurs continue to stay in the top 10 defensive rating (they're 10th currently).
Holmgren is out for some time. Probably will not get 65 games anymore.
I think he’s done for the year. He can’t do any cardio or fitness until that 8-10 week mark,so he’ll be starting from zilch. He’ll have to work all the way through cardio and fitness, then do one on one bball, then three on three, then five on five. Maybe the post season, since they’ll be in it?
I love what Dyson Daniels is doing, leading the league in steals by a huge margin (plus adding deflections and blocks) over in Atlanta. He was a guy I really wanted the Spurs to take a chance with, and I'll be keeping a close eye on the progression in his career compared to Castle, who shares a lot of his traits. A future 25 year old Daniels paired with a 24 year old Wemby might be the best defensive duo in the NBA.
I want him to suck because I WANT ATLANTA TO SUCK. Cheer for him in 2028.
I hear ya
