Spurs fans and players deserve a minimum of competency and experience. Not to have patience with a daddy'd boy who got the job who knows how and will at best need years to learn. Game after game, inteview after inteview the dude shows nothing execpt a certain talent to use plenty of words to end up saying nothing...

Unless the Spurs become officiously a developmental franchise

In general, it doesn't seem irresponsible to me to determine if the lead assistant coach would be a good head coach. The franchise values consistency and avoids big changes so to me it seems obvious they would consider this line of thinking. That doesn't guarantee he would be a great coach but it's not like he's doing that much worse than Pop.

You seem to think Mitch ended up on the team for illegitimate reasons?

    100%

The job requires a lot more than just Xs and Os, the character, the "charisma"/"alpha" factor in a lockeroom full of testosterone, the communication factor (internal and ext), the phychological factor, the experience (been there done that vs learning on the fly at the expense of the team) etc

Being as assistant doesn't requires the same skillset, some like Bud (smartly) took years before making the jump for a reason.

Mitch could end up being a good coach but it can only be in a very long time, why making the team pay for his development and mistakes he has to go through to learn the job?

    It's just not serious.

If you don't bring a "traditional" experienced NBA coach (Bud and Ime are my main wishes) , bring back Becky. Even if she fails, she deserves/merits the opportunity, she has the exp, the compe iveness, the character, the experience, the Xs and Os etc

Mitch ran pretty good sets out there yesterday. Great challenges too, although that was CP3, but at least he listened. Kinda crazy to see the Spurs play modern basketball all of a sudden

Mitch is coming along. It will be very interesting when/if Pop comes back to have a sample comparison.
Last night's game looked much more like a modern NBA game. Of course, Sochan out of the lineup helps the spacing and Wemby shooting it straight changes everything.
The rotations seem more fluid somehow, too.
Having a young coach grow up with a young team makes sense to me. It's not like the Spurs are in contention in the next 2 seasons anyway.

according to a couple players he gave them a pretty good halftime speech about them beating themselves with all the turnovers

Mitch looked visibly frustrated after some of the shot clock violations and turnovers and you could tell her was getting on some of the guys from the sideline.

Just nice to see that type of accountability from the bench for the time in what feels like years tbh.

The Spurs have a 3PAr (3 point rate, which is % of FG attempts that are threes) of 0.467 or higher in 6 of their last 7 games, and the last two games were 0.553 and 0.541. Heady days indeed.

Pop is probably pulling out his IV against medical advice and preparing to return to the team to stop all this three point nonsense!

I hope Pop hasn't coached his last game but if, let's call Becky. She deserves it!

    Get well Pop!

I figured Mitch might be younger than Chris Paul and he is by two years.

Too early to be certain but so far I like the subs ution patterns more under Mitch.
We’re playing our best players more minutes.
    Wemby is going 32,33,34 minutes.
Castle is getting plenty of time with starters.
Collins’ minutes are down and Mamu is getting more PT.

At this point I don’t expect Pop back anytime soon and maybe never, so we’ll get plenty of data on Mitch.

It will be interesting to see what he does if we get a fully healthy roster.

this is what I meant when I said I want a coach who's hungry. Mitch is out there benching guys, holding them accountable, getting after them, making adjustments. The last time I've seen Pop do that were the 2017 playoffs

I'm glad the spurs are winning, but I think we need more games to see if Mitch is really head coach material. What it really does show is the differences in coaching styles between him and pop. We are at .500 which is pretty decent for this team considering our record for the last few years - thanks to Mitch. Would we have been at .500 under pop ? I'm not sure we would. Keep up the good work Mitch, lets see how much better we can become. Like I said, even .500 is a step in the right direction and an accomplishment for this team.

I don't know how big of an impact this has, but Mitch is also essentially doing this with one less staff member than Pop.

I'm vocally on Team Becky, but I'm game to give Mitch a go full-time, but he will need a strong bench of assistants. Someone like Borrego maybe? Don't know if Tiago is looking to come back to the NBA for anything less than a HC gig at this point... also wouldn't hurt to look outside of the Pop Tree.

I love what Mitch has done so far.

One thing that I notice is that he has a much quieter presence during the games compared to Pop. This feels like it's the player's team not the coach's team.
Pop has such a strong and heavy presence. Just an observation.

CP3 is taking on a coach's role on the court, which has been lacking for the past couple of years.

I kind of hope that Mitch gets the majority, if not all of the rest of this season. That should tell us what we need to know.

Becky would be a great choice if not Mitch. I'd love to add a fiery, youngish (though bald) former NBA player to the coaching staff, too.
