I like what I've seen from Mitch so far. We run set plays at the first posession of the game and 2nd half. That give and go dribble hand off with CP3 on the side of the court for example. Victor also gets set up much better. We're playing modern basketball. He's very engaged on the sidelines and benches players for defensive mistakes. It's refreshing to see and better than what Pop was doing recently to be honest.

If he keeps this up, I have no problem with him getting the HC gig. I been saying for years we need a coach who's hungry to win.
Still needs some work on his use of challenges though

I’m going to channel the spirit of TD 21 here and say that the head coach of a team doesn’t really dictate the wins and losses as much as people thinks it does. All a good coach does is MAYBE elevate a bad team into an average one. After that, it’s the talent of the top two or three players that take the team far into the playoffs.

Another sign of a good coach is keeping the egos in check. That’s it. Nothing spectacular about their contributions to wins and losses.
Lakers with Phil Jackson seemed night and day better than Lakers with Kurt Rambis the year before and I don't think 36 year old Ron Harper in 00 was any upgrade over 36 year old Derek Harper in 99. You saw how much of a difference Bob Hill made in the 1995 WCF when he spent the entire series getting in pissing matches with Rodman. Or maybe you're not old like me and didn't?

I can't imagine what this team would look like if the Spurs lost that game in Houston in 1999 after starting 6-8 and Pop got fired with Coc waiting in the broadcast booth to swoop in and take the job.

You forgot to go full TD 21 and imply that anyone with any kind of questions surrounding Mitch was a racist, and then go into some kind of tirade defending Doc Rivers.

Can you right wing bootlickers off and go jerk off together in the political forum? Y'all are so quick to rush to a thread and gloat about someone experiencing a serious health issue because they don't support your politics yet y'all turn into the biggest crybaby pussies in the world when someone criticizes your ideology. off already
    Nope ain’t going nowhere

Wishing death to pop seems like a bannable offense to me. Relegate these people to the politics forum.

I understand this place is a free for all, but this seems like something every spurs fan can agree on. You can’t be a spurs fan and hate pop.

Going to really suck if this is how it ends for Pop and the Spurs. Of course, all that matters is Pop getting better and doing what he needs to do.

IF this is it for Pop, Im guessing Mitch finishes out the season and then they open it up with their draft pick stash for hiring the best long term coach they can. We will see.

With Wemby, the class that is the Spurs organization, new practice facility/new stadium on the way and a slew of extra draft capital, this is going to be one of the most coveted jobs in the NBA

Can we cut all of the political -talk from both sides? I love coming here to read about the Spurs but this is easily the worst thing about this site. I come here to get away from the politics.

Tell that to the s that keep coming into here to laugh at someone having a stroke simply because that person speaks out against their preferred political candidate

I have most of them ignored already. I have half a page in this thread completely hidden, from people who I already had blocked prior to this. I agree, I'd be happy if they were banned after saying that... but the overall political is just never-ending.

In an unfortunately high percentage of cases, things don't end unless they end badly.

Pop retiring due to the stroke (and risks of further damage) is about as clean an end to his career as is possible.

Maybe - just wish it was on better terms where he could be celebrated properly and we could see him happy and ready for his next chapter

I don't see why that's still not possible provided he makes a full recovery tbh.

It is, just in a different sense. It’s one thing to do it this way vs him being on the sidelines, smiling, at peace and seeing everyone in the league being able to truly embrace him rest of season etc..

Pretty pathetic that your entire persona is built on being the villain on a basketball forum. Your life must be total dog to seek that path for attention.

Either you’ve been cheated on profusely and haven’t figured out how to deal with it like a man or you’ve been molested by a family member. I’m going with molested based on how angry you are at your own team that you allegedly love.

Just like you still love dad after he made you taste mommy.

The bolded is the primary thing that separates coaches of average quality and the best to ever do it. Nothing else. X's and O's can be delegated, and easily. Things like training are routinely. Managing egos so teams can win le(s) is the pinnacle of coaching, in all team sports.
