Area 51 is weird because its just those 2 guys at the exclusion of others. now if castle separates from the pack and becomes the clear #2 or the 1b or something, i mean sure you go with that. but it feels kind of undeserved to push the others aside

he should just have his own nickname. as i mentioned last page, The Rook is clever for now during his rookie season. otherwise i kinda just like the Castle Doctrine (legal doctrine that says you dont have a duty to retreat when attacked within your own home, allowing use of deadly force, etc). if an offensive player decides to come into castle's area, he will make them pay

I really don't think it will be long before he becomes the clear #2. He is already closing out games and is the 2nd highest scorer on the Spurs in the 4th quarter behind Wemby.

yeah i mean i love what ive seen from him and he may well get there, but still a ways to go tbh. offensively he'll go through his stretches where he catches fire, but he'll also be pretty silent if not a liability for long stretches as well. as a starter he's averaging 14 points, 4.5 assists (to only 2 turnovers, which is nice)... but on 43/33 splits. his misses are often quite bad as well. they're not rimming out or anything like that. i'd keep area 51 in the back pocket. get it trademarked, keep in in the drawer for now

Thanks for the link. It's another great vid from Sam Vecenie.

At the end he said that the Spurs have a chance to build the greatest defense in league history because of how insane of a rim protector Victor is. The idea is to surround Victor with tall rangy defenders and Castle fits that mold perfectly.

You don’t remember Wing Stop? Judas and Danny Green? That was just two guys and Green also wasn’t any kind of clear #2 on the team.

thats fair. but usually from players occupying similar roles. like two guards in a backcourt, two wings with versatilty/switchability, or two bigs working off another.

I like Area 51 as a nickname for the passing connection between Castle and Wemby

If Castle assists Wemby then the ball goes from 5 to 1 making it the Area 51 connection.

    Works defensively as well.

Castle being a PoA defender means that opposing perimeter players have to go through 5 & 1 to get a bucket at the hoop.

The security force of Area 51 denies yet another attempted invasion to the rim!

Isn't Area 51 a "no fly zone"? To me the nickname always had defensive connotations. It isn't about passing connections or Castle becoming the #2 option, tbh.

Jermey is also a great defender, which would make things even nastier on that end. Just hope between him and Steph one can emerge as a legit 3 ball threat, so they can actually field a good offensive team too.

Hence why I typed "denies yet another attempted invasion...".
    It was a defensive connotation.

As the moniker creator of Wingstop, I like Area 51
As the creator of the term “Hero Ball” I also approve.

Not sure anyone wants to be known as “a predator.” Hard pass.

how dare you put castle in front of wemby in the pecking order. This type of disrespect will drive wemby to sign with another team, likely the lakers. This is Wembys team and Wembys team only, acting like there is an equal on the team is the ultimate form of disrespect and shows that you are a sniffer.

    Seriously though, awesome nickname.
