Russia’s Central Bank said Wednesday it will suspend buying foreign currency on the domestic market for the rest of 2024 as the ruble continued sliding to its lowest levels since Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022.
The decision to halt foreign currency purchases from Thursday until Dec. 31 seeks to “reduce volatility in the financial markets,” the Russian regulator said.
“The deferred purchases will be carried out during the course of 2025,” Russia’s Central Bank said in a statement.
The Bank previously suspended planned foreign currency purchases from Aug. 10, 2023, until Dec. 31, 2023, because they were adding extra pressure on the falling ruble at the time.
This year’s suspension comes as the ruble traded as low as 113 to the dollar for the first time since March 2022, according to Reuters. It was the Russian currency’s lowest level in more than 32 months.

The recent Ruble slide is more a sign of US Dollar strength than anything. The US dollar since the election of Trump has increased (probably irrationally) compared to most major currencies like the EURO as well.
Euro has been gaining on USD this week, not that there is much movement in USD/EUR exchange, and Ruble is nosediving against all currencies, even Argentine pesos and Turkish lira.
There were additional sanctions placed on Russia this week that pushed it even lower but I think we'll likely see a recovery from that soon.

It's all loans, plus we're making money hand over fist by taking over the gas supply in pretty much all of Europe.
I mean, since Citizen's United, Corp = Citizen. Not to mention LNG suppliers are not part of the MIC last I checked...Poor kid doesnt know its not US citizens who are making $ off Ukraine. But the corporations in the MIC. And we (US citizens) are paying them

Yeah, conservatives ate this up but when you follow the money, you quickly understand that the MIC and natural gas companies are making a killing. Ukraine is a profitable adventure for the mere pennies (relatively speaking) we spend on its defense.
