It’s distressing how long it has been since any significant update.
I saw a report from a few days ago saying it would be “months” more.

He had a stroke. In some cases, you’re bed ridden and working your way back. It’s not going to be fast.

He's 75, months is the best case scenario...if we're talking daily stuff.
Getting back to flying every other day and coaching a basketball team? I don't think it will happen.
Hopefully Pop recovers enough to coach a few more games at the end of the season to get a proper send off.

Sounds like a lot of people on this board wanted word salad to win.
    He did…
I really wish some of you would turn off FOX news and pick up a book.

Anyway - hope Pop is doing well. I would be shocked if he returned to coaching. From a sports history perspective, it was a great run.

My guess is that a "proper send off" is not wanted. Pop probably views his HOF enshrinement as the proper send off, and something for the fans is the sort of pomp and cir stance he doesn't care for (which is too bad, considering the support and affection the fans have shown him over the years).

This does go to show who Pop and the Spurs view as their cons uency, their stakeholders. The need/want for privacy is admirable, and is usually driven by who you view as your stakeholders. For a random person, that will usually be a person's family and friends and probably their employer (who will inform the right people in the organization to the extent that it is appropriate).

For political leaders (say, the POTUS), the entire nation is a stakeholder which is why there is always a push for health records of the POTUS to be made public and privacy is forfeit.

Celebrities often view their fans as cons uents, and will release information to put their fans at ease.

I don't think Pop or the Spurs view their fans as cons uents, I think they view them as customers... and that's kind of telling about the organization, tbh (for better or worse).

Part of it probably is Pop seeing the current team (coach) thriving and doesn’t want to do anything to stop the momentum. It’s a joy of the parents to see their kids doing well and he can retire peacefully. I think Pop wanted to right the organization back and it seems his efforts succeeded. There’s really no reason to be back, just maybe in a Pat Riley-type of management which I would completely embrace. Get well soon Pop!

Mild stroke or not he still suffered a stroke. Hope he has a timely recovery, but at the minimum I think he will recover for most of, if not all of the season.

He may easily not take a FO role and simply move on and focus on family and wine.

I'm as conservative as they come... I'm appalled that anyone would wish harm to their fellow man. I sincerely hope that Popovich recovers soon. IDC if our political views differ. The best American value IMO is our individual right/freedom to hold whatever worldview we see fit. We don't all have to agree, but we need to at least learn to disagree without being disagreeable.

Anyone with a brain can acknowledge that Gregg Popovich has brought incredible value to our beloved franchise.

    Get well soon coach Pop!

It took me a moment to remember where I read it but this article from a few days ago says it in passing
“ Popovich’s absence continuing to be termed indefinite, and with a strong possibility that Johnson will remain in charge for at least a few months”

I dont watch Fox News nor do I watch ABC News. Word salad should read more books so she can articulate what she is trying to say.

Great news that he's making progress, but I can't lie, I'm not sure that I want to see him back on the bench for anything more than a farewell tour.

    WOJBOMB:

The Spurs and Coach Gregg Popovich have agreed upon a record setting, 10-year, $250 million contract extension that includes provisions for his cryogenically preserved body to remain on the sidelines through the end of time.
