Hope he can stay healthy. That’s really the biggest setback to his game. Right now, he’s the second best scorer after Wemby. We need him healthy.

It’s weird to me that you don’t think that. So you would trust Devin to handle the ball for us in the waning moments of a playoff game? Bc I don’t. Or to come up and make a big defensive play for us in the playoffs? I don’t. Or for him to understand the importance of every possession in the last two minutes of quarters and getting good shots for each possession? Bc again I don’t. Or for him to read the opposing teams offense and to take a game changing charge when it isn’t his man either the ball? Again I don’t.

Gun to your head, you think Devin plays 2 or 3 steps ahead on offense? He knows exactly how to manipulate not only his defender but 2 or 3 other persons defender. You guys make it seem like Devin is Luka. And if you think Devin and Luka have the same basketball IQ then idk what to tell you. If your answer is yes to any of my questions then I don’t think I’m the one who’s wrong.

Bah it’s semantics. Does he know how to play basketball, yes. Is he at an all time level of knowing how to play basketball? No. Does he have a ton to learn about basketball? Yes. I don’t see how you can watch the 2014 championships Spurs with Duncan, Manu, TP, Boris, Splitter, Kawhi, and Danny and then look at Vassell and say yup he knows how to play basketball as well as all those other guys.

The dude is super raw. Every all star pro talks about how they didn’t know how to play basketball when they got into the league. They don’t know how to be a professional. They didn’t know the system. They didn’t know how to take care of their bodies. They didn’t know the ins and outs of all the teams they scouted. They didn’t know the counters to their own scouting from other teams. They didn’t know the intensity and atmosphere of the playoffs. They didn’t understand how big one possession is and how that can turn the game around. They didn’t know the prep work both physically and mentally it took to be a champion.

These are all parts of knowing how to play basketball. Vassell is at the early part. He’s at a part where he’s starting to do some stuff besides be a chucker and we are happy about it. But he isn’t consistent at it. He probably ever will be. If Vassell was as knowledgeable as you think he is, then we have our two guy for a championship team. But he isn’t a number two option on any contender. He isn’t smart or talented enough to be one.

And then people on Spurstalk says Devin should be our 3rd option and average 20 points a game. In the history of basketball there has only been one 3rd option ever to average 20 ppg on a championship team. Klay Thompson. And Vassell definitely ain’t no Klay. He doesn’t know how to move with out the ball like Klay does and find open shots like Klay does.

Good post, but was Klay Thompson a third option? He was always second.
