MVP, MVP, MVP!!!
Can Victor reasonably be in the MVP discussion if he gets the Spurs to the playoffs. Easily he is the MVP of this team. Without Victor, this team is bottom 3.

yeah! Closer to sealing his all star spot.
If the Spurs can keep up this pace around a 40 win team he'll probably be top 7-8 in MVP voting. He'd have to have a big 2025 jump like the one he took last year when the calendar year turned over to 2024 to be a serious MVP candidate (e.g. top 3-4).
he's already nba's main attraction, eveb if the spurs end up bottom 3 in the league, he'd likely still be top 5
Wemby is already 8 in the NBA MVP ladder. He would be a lock for a top 5 MVP spot if the Spurs are a top 6 seed, and maybe even if they finish around 8 or 9.
Thought this was a very real possibility about halfway through the POR game. Glad the league was paying equal attention.
Another sign that it's time to improve the roster around him. Doesn't need to be major moves, but moves that improve the overall talent level. Backup big is less of a concern now that Bassey is close to net neutral versus the huge net negative Collins was. Even so, I'd still see if we could turn Collins into Jonas.
Similarly, let's turn Keldon into Aaron Nesmith and see if we can't find a microwave bench scorer somewhere. Branham is the correct archetype, he just unfortunately sucks ass.
Wonder what it would realistically take to get Coby White or Ayo Dosunmu from the Bulls for that role.
Without doing any work to see if this works salary wise:
CP3/Vassell/Sochan/Barnes/Wemby
Coby/Castle/Champ/Nesmith/Jonas
Blake/Bran/Cidy/Mamu/Bassey
Spurs are going be be caught right where they don't to be. As a middle of the pack team still not good enough to compete for a le.
Wemby is too good to be a bottom team to get the top lottery picks anymore but the Spurs still don't have enough overall talent to be a top team.
The Spurs are going to have to get out of their conservative nature of not making huge trades to bring in star level talent if they want to improve the team enough to be a real contender.
Middle draft picks and trading for players past their primes or role player acquisition types are similar level players as to what they currently have on the roster.
Does anyone believe this current core will ever be good enough to be one of the top teams in the league?
I'd write a detailed post on why you're wrong, but it's not worth it.
You'll just be in the team tank until Spurs reach 60 wins.
Wemby had a good week, but, still feels a few of years from the beginning of his peak. That is so strange.
20 yrs old and putting up Wilt, Hakeem kind of numbers. If anyone gets close to or surpasses Wilt's 100 pt game, it's going to be Wemby.
This team needs to learn how to win more games before making any big moves. Hopefully, next season. I love the Aaron Nesmith, Coby White & Valunciunas ideas. Not expecting much in this season's trade deadline.
One player that was speculated to be traded at the deadline was CP3. He'd be crazy to want to leave this team and I don't think that he will.
Anyway, congrats to Wemby!!!
How are they going to get better if their record is 40-45 wins over the next couple of years and the Atlanta picks don't turn out to be better and they don't want to make any trades to upgrade the roster?
Today it's for a week. Soon it will be for a month. And you know what's next.
Congratulations Victor! #GSG
He's gonna grab some MVP votes for sure.
I didn't realize that All-NBA teams went positionless starting last year. My assumption that Wemby has a ceiling of 2nd team was because Jokic is still clearly better, but if Wemby continues to improve at the rate he has been, he could be a borderline top 5 player by the end of the year and get onto the first team.
It's too bad that players don't get better and that no non-lottery pick has ever panned out, and we're just kind of stuck with this team forever.
they could trade for Shaedon Sharpe. He's the next Michael Jordan and would make them the le favorite
I've heard pundits say by the end of the season there's a real chance it's between AD & Victor for that fifth 1st team spot.
well deserved. just hope he has a nice game against embiid tonight.
Simple, just do it like the Thunder & Rockets have been doing.
Team Record:
SEASON THUNDER ROCKETS SPURS2019-20 44-28 44-28 32-392020-21 22-50 17-55 33-392021-22 24-58 20-62 34-482022-23 40-42 22-60 22-602023-24 57-25 41-41 22-602024-25 22-5 (~67w) 19-9 (~56w) 15-13 (~44w)
If we're not too stupid, we could be looking at ~55 wins at the end of next season, and we're right in the mix.
So you're hoping for this roster to improve enough to be good enough to be a contender as is or hitting on a 2nd all star level player in the non lottery. Good luck with that.
Nice. Well-deserved. Joker or Giannis are gonna win MVP tbh, barring a huge collapse. But Wemby should definitely be an All-Star this season if he keeps up this pace.
So people in here really do think this core is a le contender in the next two years as is.
Rockets and OKC can draft though.
Rascal as usual showing his low IQ.
I'm not hoping for anything - I realize that there are a lot of different ways to build a championship team. You're the only one who thinks there is only one way (a way that kept your favorite team, the Blazers, in the basement). Good luck with that.
