[Windhorst] From my discussions with the league—I think some teams that thought they were out of this are coming back in because it doesn't look like the Suns & Heat are going to be able to consummate a deal. I think we might see a team swoop in & get Jimmy at a bargain price.

Sons trading away an unprotected FRP and not even getting Jimmy.

That would be brutal for the Suns. But it could just be a negotiating tactic from the Heat to try and get them to throw in Ryan Dunn.

But yeah the Sons trading that 2031 unprotected 1st for basically three late firsts is a disaster.

At this point, unless you are prepared to overpay Jimmy come free agency he is quite possibly a half season rental. Not too many teams are willing to give assets AND have the outgoing contracts to match.

Anyone paying attention to Houston? Three seasons at the very bottom of the league, and then seemingly out of nowhere one of the best teams in the nation
2 teams that are playing well (with the roster they have)... Houston and Atlanta... with 2 fresh coaches (with ties to the Spurs) that we could have had if Pop was willing to move on earlier.

Just, like... They're ahead of us because they have years of draft picks. We have two top four picks. Two. Settle the down.
I typically just breeze past Mr. Body's posts, but this one caught my eye, so let's lay out the factual record.

    Spurs Rockets
    Last Playoff Appearance 2018-19 2019-20
Lottery Picks Since Last Appearance 5 4
FRPs Since Last Appearance 10 10
Top 10 Picks Since Last Appearance 3 4
Top 5 Picks Since Last Appearance 2 4
    #1 Picks Since Last Appearance 1 0
All Time Generational Talents Since Last Appearance 1 0
    HOF Coaches Employed 1 0
GOAT Front Offices Employed 1 0
    Playoff Drought 6+ 4

    So, the Rockets have had:
    • 1 more Top 10 pick, which they used on Reed Sheppard who doesn't even play and isn't impacting their team at all.
    • 2 more Top 5 picks, one of whom was Sheppard so really only one additional.
    • The same number of FRPs (the Spurs traded one of their 10 away, and the Rockets actually only had 8 picks but made draft day trades to acquire two more in Sengun and TyTy Washington). The Rockets have added the same number of FRP players to their roster in one less season, but that's because they've been active in making moves to add additional FRP talent to their roster. Counter that to the Spurs, who actively chose to NOT add an FRP to their roster this past season, in addition to consistently passing up the opportunity to add early SRP talent to the roster.

We're also told by folks around here how badly Jalen Green sucks and how Jabari Smith is a disappointment, but apparently now they are the reason the Rockets are several years ahead of us, despite having less time as a lotto team?

Oh I forgot, we aren't supposed to count any of the picks Pre-Wemby, because "we had to blow those picks in order to be bad enough for Wemby". It's weird how the Rockets and Pistons, both teams that were just as bad as us (or worse) in 2022-23 have managed to assemble respectable teams since then, and neither of them drafted a generational talent who is a Top 5 player in his second season.

We should be 1-year behind HOU's rebuilding schedule, because they hit the bottom faster, but we are likely several years behind them. We could do the same exercise for OKC, but they got a significant head-start in their teardown package for PG13 and took an accelerated rebuilding path.

Falling for PAFTO's "Patience" grift is the same as falling for Trump's MAGA grift. Both are cons designed to benefit themselves above all us, and both require a blind allegiance that ignores fact, reason and logic to believe. No other front office and coaching staff in professional sports would be allowed to miss the playoffs for 6 consecutive seasons with impunity, but Pop managed to actually get a raise in the middle of it.

Can't wait to see how Mr. Body spins this one.

The only thing I'd like to hear from PATFO believers are some arguments for optimism.
I've said it many times, Wright is a great salesman, but there are no indications whatsoever that he's capable of being a good buyer.

We already lost some value on those Hawks picks, great GMs always find perfect timings with their assets.
Can't blow the load too early, but doing nothing often backfires and the return is worse than expected.

Interesting. I take it that means if he's traded to his preferred team now he will sign an extension this summer.

He's a Kings icon, Shams already said Fox has no interest in the Lakers.
Spurs, Rockets, Magic or one of Eastern tanking teams with assets seem like logical destinations.

Tbf, 90% of the time we hear a player has a preferred destination(s) it's always LA.

have lakers committed a legit trade rape since gasol 16 years ago?

people point to anthony davis, and yes, superstar trades like that often end up difficult to make even (see how the lakers got hosed when trading away shaq)... but they gave up Lonzo, Ingram, Hart... 3 legitimatley good players, and 3 unprotected first round picks, one of which was the #4 overall pick in that upcoming draft, and the last one having the unique deferment feature to give it added value.

You... don't understand how having multiple swings at top draft picks work? Really? Are you that brain-swelteringly stupid? Do you seriously not understand the advantage of having six top lottery picks over two?

    For the record:

"Top Draft Picks" (we'll define as Top 5) on Houston's roster:

    Jalen Green - 2th overall
    Jabari Smith - 3rd overall
    Amen Thompson - 4th overall
Reed Sheppard - 3rd overall (doesn't play, not a factor in how good their team currently is)

"Top Draft Picks" on San Antonio's Roster:

    Victor Wembanyama - 1st overall
    Stephon Castle - 4th overall

The Rockets have exactly 1 more "Top Draft Pick" on their roster than the Spurs. But the Spurs have a Top 5 player in the entire league on their roster.

Other key members of Houston's roster that they drafted in the first round are Sengun and Eason, aka, two guys the Spurs could have taken, but passed on.

I assume Mr. Body's fetish with getting on by this forum coincides with his fetish for being pissed on that he frequently reminds us of. It's weird man, you should seek help. But please don't kill yourself, this is the only life you get and there is still time to get better.
