A legislative pe ion asking the U.S. Supreme Court to reconsider its 2015 decision that legalized same-sex marriage is heading to the Idaho House floor.
After nearly two hours of testimony, House Joint Memorial 1 passed the Idaho House State Affairs Committee in a 13-2 vote on Wednesday, receiving support from all the Republicans on the committee and opposing votes from its two Democrats. The memorial is addressed to the U.S. Supreme Court and pushes to restore the authority of defining marriage to the states. It asks the court to reconsider its 2015 decision in Obergefell v. Hodges that legalized same-sex marriage.
Sponsor Rep. Heather Scott, R-Blanchard, said its purpose is to restore states’ rights.
“We’re sending this clear message from Idaho,” Scott told the committee. “We don’t want our laws and our cons ution trampled on, and it should be our decision what we want to do in a state.”....

Marriage should never be the domain of the state. It's a purely religious or personal experience. Just because you can designate your husband or wife (as a sexual) as your beneficiary for potentially massive pensions/payoffs doesn't mean the govt should be involved.

Yes, but you've got to remove married filing jointly tax status though for all then to avoid the gay loophole from Chuck & Larry which is widely exploited today. Getting married as a religious or personal experience or for fun is fine, live and let live, but they shouldn't be getting financial tax breaks for it, unless they're going to procreate.
Gay marriage is 100% a tenth amendment issue. 2015 was just such a woke knee-jerk era in time.

The best solution is to eliminate tax breaks in general and have a very simplistic tax code. Democrats should get on-board with this too, at least if they're trying to be authentic fiscal liberals, since it would hurt large corporations and mega-millionaires, billionaires etc. the hardest and make taxation and the tax process easier on the middle class.
Agree to disagree on social counterculture issues, but if there's some middle ground the MAGA populist conservatives and authentic liberals including Bernie-bros can agree on, the corporatocracy and unbridled runaway capitalism stinks. The patient-pay capitalist healthcare caste system is a failed experiment, and must be addressed. Mega-billionaire and trillionaire en ies and individuals are undertaxed and unfairly overly powerful. The affordability crisis, from housing to fuel to groceries, disaffects the middle class the most.
