There's not even any real leftists in this country outside of Bernie Sanders. Republicans are far right and democrats are center-right by any objective measure. You know this, of course, but Republicans are straight up in denial about it.
When we have free at the point of service healthcare, guaranteed college tuition, literally no guns allowed, etc then we'll have moved across the center to the left. Banning assault weapons or requiring background checks isn't a leftist position literally at all, for instance. It's probably not even center nowadays, since every other major country has guns banned completely.
