Lots of people you didn't vote for have access to your social security number. On the other hand, Musk is auditing the corruption and wasteful management in the federal government, something you should support. Wish him luck. Corruption harms Americans. Focus on that.

When you get money back in a tax return, where do the funds come from?

Oh, I don't like it, Chump. In fact, I work real hard every year to neither get a refund or owe. In fact, I've gotten pretty good at it. Last year, Uncle Sam owed me $7.00.
But, if you consider the fungibility of money, yeah, anything I'm refunded is originally from my pocket and belonged in my pocket all along. Now, if the government paid me interest on the money they've been holding for me, you'd have a point. THEN, I'd be getting money from the government. But, as it stands, if I overpaid taxes, it's simply money from my pocket that's been sitting in a government account somewhere, not collecting interest (for me) and not being used. It's just sitting there.

The check comes from the U. S. Treasury, the department tasked with writing checks. What's your point?

One of the OPM staffers received an email from the agency’s new leadership instructing them to give Musk’s team “access [to] the system as an admin user" and "code read and write permissions."

A new server used to control these databases has been placed in a conference room that Musk’s team is using as a command center. An OPM staffer described the server as a piece of commercial hardware they believed was not obtained through the proper federal procurement process.
“China and Russia are literally trying to hack us every day and we just gave all this data over to somebody that's not been properly vetted,” an OPM staffers said. “It's not just Amanda Scales, it's all the [political appointees] in that office right now."
