tre wasnt the problem. he was a solid yet unspectacular backup point guard. limited, but solid. getting off of collins was the much bigger deal here. he was always going to be the most difficult player to get rid of. keldon/barnes are easier trade throw-ins than collins

tre did a great job of maximising his value and i wish him the best, but he had to go asap. Collins instead got his value ruined in the last few months for no reason.

collins ruined his on value by being a very bad player on both ends of the court. his extension, which i was happy about at the time, was a colossal mistake. he played himself out of his starting spot last season, and played himself out of the rotation this season. being able to dump him as part of a deal like this was incredible

Shout out to Jaden Smith and his protest too. He made it clear last night at the Grammys who was untouchable in this trade.

Zollins and our 3rd string pg for fox
Noone in 100+ pages thought it would take Tre, Zollins, fake 1st from CHA, two valid FRP and exendable SRPs

I'm telling y'all there are ways to get this done without giving up the future core of Castle, Vassell, Sochan

Its just so annoying how you much stupid you guys spew. No, one of the more positive players no our team did not have to go ASAP. The people who are NOT positive contributors don't need to go; it's the ones who are net negatives that need to go. The idea that Tre was holding this team back is just ing stupid.

He wasn't holding the team back, but he's not good enough for a serious playoff roster.
Tre seems to be like a great guy with high basketball IQ, but he's too limited physically. And he's not a reliable shooter. Death sentence in modern NBA.
He knows how to play defense, doesn't mess up his rotations, moves well laterally and stays with his matchups, but still gets torched because he's just too small.

He was on an expiring contract and if Spurs had no intention to move CP3, he became redundant. It was either him or CP3, definitely no room for both.

Tre is high IQ, but was always most likely to be moved because he is on an expiring contract. Those are the most valuable ones for teams trying to shed salary. Him not being a shooter always made him expendable, especially since we already have Sochan and Castle as non-shooters. He was one of our smarter players, but nobody is gonna miss him if you swap him out for Fox.

Manny’s right tbh. It was right to trade Tre because it made the trade work, but he (like a couple other players) are far from the team’s issues that it doesn’t make any sense to say that he belongs in the category of “top players to trade”. The team should always aim to trade weak links first, then “valuable but not necessary to the team” second.

    OK...

So, which coaches will be available or are available now?

also...don't sleep on this mclaughlin dude...if its the one that played on the t wolves - he looks like a legit bench role player for 5-7 minutes per game....or there when one of the stars is in foul trouble or out sick...

but - first - time to get a REAL NBA COACH!

Spurs should consider bringing Mike Brown back to the bench.

Right, remember when we used to roll our eyes at trade proposals like Collins, Jones, Chicago pick and one Spurs pick (and a bunch of 2nds) for an all-star? It means that now I can't laugh at what appear to be absurd trade proposals.

Any talk about our players being garbage and no one will want them via trade is out the window. Foolish talk now

I'm not mad they traded Tre. They made the right move, just to be clear. Great trade. But the idea that Tre was a player that was holding us back isn't backed by any actual quan ative analysis.

Nah... with Chicago going in the tank it may never convey.

Chicago would've bottomed out either way, Lavine and Vucevic were gone.
They wouldn't have gotten their pick back if Lavine went elsewhere, but then we would have to pay Kings way more because Lavine is still a very good player.

They'll surely be a top8 worst team next year, the pick could've conveyed only in 2027 if Bulls struck gold in these two drafts and got a franchise player.
Even then they'd still probably be bad in 2027.

It's a lottery. 3 chances in a row. It was more likely to convey than not.
