Is there a personnal relationship between butler and the Suns's owner?
I don't get his obsession to get an old expensive Butler he'll have to extend to the point of getting rid of Durant...
What am I missing?
2 SRPs for JV? We couldnt have beat that?

Suns are the only team dumb enough to offer him a 150/3 exension. It's that simple.
I get it from Butler's side, it's quite simple. I'd do the same haha
I don't understand the Suns's motivations. Why would they do that???
PHX doesn't want to trade Durant for Jimmy; their idea is to trade Beal for Jimmy... MIA though wants Durant
Surely Miami would send a couple more assets in the deal...
Valanciunas should be a Spur!
B.Wright is hereby demoted again to B.Wrong
Get back to work B.Wrong!
Seriously....Jonas ain't a world beater but basically fits what we need for backup C
I wanted to get him too. I wonder what the Spurs are looking at. They definitely need a backup center.
KD rejected Dray
As Golden State pursues Phoenix's Kevin Durant, the two-time Warriors NBA Finals MVP has no desire in a reunion and does not want to go back. Reporting for NBA Today:
I doubt Spurs would make any move, given who went where for what
I would have liked Jonas too, but he's got two years left after this one and he's already showing some decline. I'm not too miffed about it.
Apparently, Suns are entertaining this option now that Durant said no to GW... Doesn't make any sense, I thought the idea of having Butler was to give help to... Durant! "lol"
That's a given but basketball wise the Suns'roster construction would make even less sense than now
If the idea is to blow it up bc the Durant exp failed, then why not go for young players instead than a tired old uber expensive Butler?
My initial question regarding eventual relationship between Butler and Suns' owner was because it's to me the only rational explanation. It's a buddy move the same way Nico has done in Dallas the last 2 seasons. (Kyrie PJ or AD are his buddies)
I'm not looking for rationality here because I can't see any reason to get Butler for Durant. The closest thing I can come up with is that, for some reason, they don't want to blow it up now and want to quasi compete the rest of the season and then blow it up. At that point, they don't extend Butler and make him choose between playing on an ending contract or opting out, then trade Booker for all their pick plus a young player and let Beal lead the tank.
I'd take any Big rn, so i'm not against having Jonas. but does he fit the profile?
He seems a more short term fix for a contending team to me, PATFO probably would rather use their draft capital for the real long term deal, maybe younger and more mobile
Jonas could also have been pushing specifically for SAC bc there's his Lithuanian teammate over there
Good to see I'm not the only one confused...
If I were them I'd start straight with your last point. Just get rid of KD Booker for bunch of 1RPs and young players with potentials and let Beal stat pad while tanking, who knows, u could even get something out of him in a year
I truly wish Sidy Cissoko the best. What a down to earth quality individual and I hope he has opportunity in WAS.
Good luck Sidy in health and success. Thank you for your time with SA.
I don't think they can find a good FRP for KD given his age, so if they got Pelle out of the deal then than a protected pick then at least that's something they can use in the future.
with the Center market being dry, let's hope the Lakers trade for Zach Collins
The GM woke up, read the papers and said "I traded Lavine for what?!?!? HOLY should have laid off the Malort last night"
They traded DDR, Lavine, Caruso and Markkanen for one FRP...their own '25.![]()
Maybe the spurs get grab someone in the buyout market. Seems like it was Jonas or bust, but like scott said, I’m kinda meh on him.
Only thing that makes any sense is they know they'll lose Durant after next season when his contract is up while they can extend Butler for three seasons. I'd still rather keep Durant and trade him next summer or next trade deadline and get something better than washed up Jimmy Butler on a 35% max deal for three years though.
I'd keep him too..
durant is a better player, better teammate, less of a headache, and remarkably, less injury prone these days. his game will also continue to age better.
if they were really going to swap them, they need to demand some other significant assets from miami to make it worth their while
