What truly matter for the picks is Hawks missing the playoffs. If they miss the playoffs, the pick will go from 15th/16th to around 10th with some top4 hope.

If Trae doesn't get injured, Hawks shouldn't slide out of the play-in tournament. A tough play- in tournament for them would be to finish 9th/10th and start with a game against a healthy Sixers.
They can still rise higher in the draft and remain a play in team in the ty east. Portland is 9-1 in their last 10. They could easily pass ATL, improving our ATL pick while ATL remains in the play in. Toronto could also pass them. They are 6-4 in their last 10, and just acquired BI.

The Hawks aren’t making the playoffs. They just lost a game in which almost everything broke right for them, and are 1-9 in their last 10.

My guess is the Hawks go something like 11-20 to close out.
That would give them 33 wins.
And yet that may be enough to be in the play-in.
Only Philly below them in the East seems motivated to win, and they really should tank to keep their top 6 protected pic.

I think the Hawks end up with somewhere between the 8th and 11th worst record.
Last year anything from 33 to 35 wins would have been the 9th worst.
Even if they go 16-15 and reach 39 wins that would have been the 11th worst record last year.
To fall below the 8th pick would have meant only winning 30 games or less last year.

Hopefully someone comes in with a godfather offer for Hunter. Hawks have no reason to tank, but no reason to avoid it (this yr) either.

Hunter is a yr older than Trae, moving him now = selling at peak value, frees up a lot of minutes for Risacher enough to get him back to ROY contention, something to keep the fans rooting for. Hawks get some picks, and an exception while clearing up to $23.3M from cap.
Hunters mpg and value likely drop significantly with the return of Jalen/growth of Zac, go into off-season with Trae, Jalen, Daniels, Risacher, Okongwu, 2 '25 pick in the 13-25 range, be able to pull-off a big trade and/or sign a Max + others. Lots of flexibility with a play-in starting 5 in the Leastern.

KD to the Hawks would be a great fit for them tbh. Really hope it doesn't happen obv but it makes a ton of sense. Just depends on how much future draft capital they're willing to give up.

Shams saying Hawks are going after Durant
Wow, that could make a lot of sense for both teams.
Hunter + matching salaries + ?? assets for Durant. Phx potentially gets good value, maybe gets under the 2nd apron.
    Hawks run
Trae/Daniels/Zac/KD/Okongwu this year + Jalen next yr when Durant is a massive expiring. Hawks probably get to the 6th seed with Durant this yr, only 3 games back. Really really hope KD says no, cause not sure who else who. Ugh.

Nice pickup by the Cavs. Caris LeVert was playing like ass this season. Hunter is a major upgrade.

This makes the Hawks worse though. Makes me think they're not done yet, otherwise this doesn't make sense for them. Unless those Pick Swaps are well into the future.

Why would the Hawks blow it up this year if their pick is unprotected?

    Because they’re cheap.

I don't think their done, but I think they may try to clear some salary, still $30M over cap, way over next year.

You think they trade for talent or try to move off salary?
Niang should have real value to a contender as a 20mpg, 40% 4.4 3Pa PF on a $8.5M, $8.2M contract. I'd love to find a way to get him and move Keldon.

they've probably give up hope on this season and are looking more to protect their 26 swap and future-build. they still have firsts from LAL and SAC (top 12 protected) this year

Save money, get young guys more minutes, get into the top 12 so they get Sac's first round pick, get Zac enough minutes to win ROY and give fans something to root for.
Go into next season with a play-in, maybe play-off starting 5 in East of Trae/Daniels/Jalen/Zac/Okongwu plus Sac's #13-16 pick.

Don't think ATL has any interest in making a deal with the Spurs right now tbh . Unless it's for one of their FRP's back, which ain't happening.

ATL fans? Yeah, they probably don't want to trade a young player or picks to Spurs.
Landry Fields, the GM who took over for the guy that made the trade? Sanford guy, I'm sure he's familiar with the concept of a sunk cost, if he see's a deal that makes it less likely the Spurs take his '26 pick I seriously doubt he passes it up just because the Spurs are involved.

Do you think the Hawks are gonna make another move to add talent for this season?
