Man, even though the Spurs didn't make any more trades, really happy with the trade deadline. I'm really, really glad the Spurs got De'Aaron on the team. Seems like a great guy and great player.

Nirvana is far better than AiC and anyone who says differently is just a hipster trying to go against the non obvious answer but we're here to talk about our savior Fox.

Nirvana is by far the more hipster choice.

Alice in Chains has a wide appeal, I know people who think 80's butt metal was the best era of rock, and hate all 90's music except Alice in Chains.

You could also argue they spawned some of the absolute worst years of rock when bands like Godsmack, Nickelback, and Puddle of Mudd were all over the radio copping their style.

I like both bands and I would rank their albums as follows. Post-Staley AIC albums excluded because I'm really not that familiar with them.

    Dirt
    Nevermind
    In Utero
    Jar of Flies
    Alice in Chains
    Facelift
    Bleach
    Incesticide
Nirvana: Unplugged (unpopular choice here, but I've just never gotten into this album as much as other people.)
    Sap EP

But yeah great first game for Fox.

i definitely would have thought aic is the more "hipster" take as imo nirvana is blasted over the radio more than aic, at least from what i remember back when i used to listen to radio when driving to school/work. and nevermind is one of the best selling albums of all time. everybody recognizes the naked baby.

then again i didnt live thru 80's. im a millenial with a boomer's taste in music. so i cant really speak to how they were perceived in their time

Never really listed to grunge at all during it's peak, but I am way more open minded these days musically. I'll have to listen to some of those albums you guys have listed and give them a chance to see if I like them or not. I've heard some songs from the above listed albums watching reaction videos the past few years and I did like the few songs of AIC and Nirvana that I have heard.

Start with Nevermind by Nirvana and Dirt by Alice in Chains.

People who think 80's hair metal was good have taste. Your ranking isn't terrible although Nirvana unplugged should be way higher. I'd also take Nevermind and In utero well ahead of Dirt but to each their own!

With all the lights going out to #4, I don't know if I talk enough about the last play .. not only does it improve his teammates. It also seems that it reaches the coach. The last play was key and it was designed so that Victor could finish them off with a dunk. It just missed. But it was there.

Depends on definition of hipster. Every Nirvana album is rated between 8.7 and 10 on Pitchfork which is the gold standard of hipster navel gazing music taste makers. AIC is huge with rural America.

Saying AiC was ever bigger than nirvana is pure revisionist history. From album sales, top 100 lists, Spotify streams, or any other commercial or popularity metric nirvana was clearly way ahead of AiC. You maybe able to argue pearl jam but even that is a stretch.

You can like AiC more and I agree it is fantastic stuff, but to say nirvana is a hipster take is just absolute BS. They were the biggest band of the entire 90s. The only artists who even came close to them were BIG and Tupac. Well, unless you want to count e girls, nsync or new kids on the block.

Tbh. He and Cantrells vocal chemistry is the linchpin. That dreary, haunting sound just pushes right through you. In a nuts (no pun intended), Nirvana is that pizza you order that's always very good and AIC is a homemade Italian dish.

And don't get me wrong, I love Nirvana. But Nirvana fanboys are the kind of people that heard Nirvana for the first time an automatically decided it was the greatest thing they ever heard and wouldn't hear anything else on the subject.

Nirvana, AiC, and grunge in general hit the spot at the time... but honestly I don't think they've aged all that well. Better than Nu-Metal at least.

I still enjoy grunge as it was my high school years, but older music stands the test of time better. Think about a band like Queen up against grunge or numetal. The gulf is ridiculously wide.

Nirvana is great, but at their core, they’re a pop-punk band. They get credit for innovating grunge, but they really weren’t all that innovative. I don’t think that they were all that ground breaking considering what bands like Social Distortion or Bad Religion were doing at the time. If you listen right, some parts of In Utero sound like a cover of the first Melvin’s album.

AIC was definitely more innovative in terms of coming up with a sound that didn’t just build off of predecessors. I’m not entirely sure that you can categorize them as a grunge band per se. They don’t sound like Soundgarden or STP or Nirvana. I think they get grouped in because they’re from Seattle and it was the early 90s.

But at the end of the day, this is a stupid conversation because there’s no right answer: both are great bands and people are just going to gravitate to what their preference is. I don’t think there’s any principled way of saying one is better than the other. And that’s totally fine.

But yeah, Fox had a great game.

No one said that. Hipsters prefer Nirvana. That's all.

Also I think Fox tops 30 next game

I thought hipsters are the ones who are counter mainstream, which by definition are “against the masses”. Non?
