i get that lots of early autocracy involves semi-unofficial agencies with euphemistic names doing purges and takeovers, but you just cannot say "the DOGE locked officials out of the department of education while their billionaire junta head declared it nonexistent" without seeming weird to americans

    beaucoup conflicts of interest

for which El0n will investigate himself

The CFPB uses a process called “supervision” to comb through the internal information and processes of financial ins utions, the official explained, producing records the bureau describes as confidential supervisory information, or CSI. “If I were a potential compe or to Elon’s planned payments app, I would be concerned about DOGE looking at my CSI,” the official said. “Some of the information he now has access to: Violations of law that aren’t public, information about the systems and processes they use, the investigative tactics that the bureau used to uncover information about violations of law, how many customers they have.”

“Musk now has tremendous access to confidential information about his compe ors,” the official warned.

The White House has said that it will be up to Musk to decide whether his work at DOGE conflicts with his business interests. “If Elon Musk comes across a conflict of interest with the contracts and the funding that DOGE is overseeing, then Elon will excuse himself from those contracts,” White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said on Wednesday.

I know it's quaint to cite the law, smoke em if you got em

Special government employees like Musk are forbidden by law from participating in government operations that affect their financial holdings.

arms length distance from the carnage

a scapegoat when it becomes clear that a lot of MAGAs will be hurt too

and showing the biggest donors that they will not be forgotten

Maybe. I think Trump is simpler than that and just wants personal opportunities and money. I mean this is the guy that marketed Trump basketball shoes, coins and a maga Bible

    To be clear, what the
    DOGE
    team and
    @USTreasury
have jointly agreed makes sense is the following:

    - Require that all outgoing government payments have a payment categorization code, which is necessary in order to pass financial audits. This is frequently left blank, making audits almost impossible.

    - All payments must also include a rationale for the payment in the comment field, which is currently left blank. Importantly, we are not yet applying ANY judgment to this rationale, but simply requiring that SOME attempt be made to explain the payment more than NOTHING!

    - The DO-NOT-PAY list of en ies known to be fraudulent or people who are dead or are probable fronts for terrorist organizations or do not match Congressional appropriations must actually be implemented and not ignored. Also, it can currently take up to a year to get on this list, which is far too long. This list should be updated at least weekly, if not daily.

The above super obvious and necessary changes are being implemented by existing, long-time career government employees, not anyone from
    DOGE
. It is ridiculous that these changes didn’t exist already!

Yesterday, I was told that there are currently over $100B/year of en lements payments to individuals with no SSN or even a temporary ID number. If accurate, this is extremely su ious.

When I asked if anyone at Treasury had a rough guess for what percentage of that number is unequivocal and obvious fraud, the consensus in the room was about half, so $50B/year or $1B/week!!

This is utterly insane and must be addressed immediately.

Weiird that El0n didn't hire any forensic accountants and that a political officer is calling the shots on the audit.

To say nothing of the manifest conflicts of interest of the auditor.

Will El0n submit his report to Congress so it can act on its suggestions?

(Bloomberg) -- Federal cost-cutting initiatives pushed by President Donald Trump have turned their focus to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, where spending on consultants like Deloitte now faces scrutiny.

Workers at the agency have been asked to provide by Tuesday evening plain-language explanations of contracts and designate which are “non-essential” and should be terminated or reduced, according to do ents seen by Bloomberg News. Contracts from dozens of consultants, including Guidehouse, Serco Group Plc., and the Cadmus Group are being reviewed, the do ents state.
