His career DRB% is 23.1. If you’re not familiar with the stat it means when the other team puts up a shot, of the 10 players on the floor, he grabs almost 1/4 of the rebounds. That’s pretty ing good in an area we are weak on.

Biyombo was at Saturday's loss in Orlando and has immediately pinpointed ways he can help the Spurs' beleaguered frontcourt. “Everybody can see," he said. "We’ve got to figure out offensive rebounds, second-chance points, points in the paint."


Bismack Biyombo tells me he has wanted to be a Spur for a long time. “Since my rookie year, I’ve had a desire at some point to be with this organization," the 13-year vet said. "The past two free agencies, we’ve been going back and forth. It’s great to be here. I just want to help win games.”

In all seriousness, with Wemby improving from 3 (37% over last 3 months) I wonder if they would try some line ups with him at PF and Bismarck at C.

The bit of gossip TimVP had a while ago about the spurs seeing Jakob as the “perfect fit” with Wemby upfront has stayed with me. Maybe it wasn’t the right time last year, but now?

Anyway, could be a trial run that could inform whether they target someone like Lopez this summer.

That's why I was more sold on Bamba who's way younger. I figured he could be a fairly long term limited role player and I like the idea of parking him on the arc while Fox does all the driving with Wemby on the bench. He's not at ring chasing age like some other buyout guys probably will be.

I think if they don’t find someone over the break and Bassey is still out, they may sign him to a second and final 10 day that would take them to the first of March, just about whey guys hit the buyout wire.

When he talks, he sounds like a wise, old traveler ... not the 18-year-old he claims to be.
"I was born on August 28, 1992," he tells me several times. He repeats the date several times in the interview.
But ask NBA scouts -- any NBA scout -- and they'll tell you he's closer to 22 than 18. They have no proof, mind you. He just looks, sounds, acts and plays older, they claim.

Ford's anonymous scouts peg Biyombo at 22, or thereabouts. In the Hoop Summit aftermath, NBA.com's David Aldridge wrote that "an Eastern Conference GM said he heard rumors that Biyombo was anywhere from 23 to 26." SI's Ian Thomsen claimed that "a half-dozen NBA scouts and executives told [him] they believed Biyombo was older than his listed age of 18."
