The worst thing was the 1/2 hour TNT tribute. Take that out, and it’s a decently tolerable night. I assume there won’t be one next year, since they stupidly lost the media rights.
They also had so much dead time to kill. They had 3 previous hours they could have fit it in, but instead they decide to stop the "championship game" in the very middle to do it?

I don't blame the players for checking out at that point. Wemby's team had to sit for like an hour and a half, warmed up and played like 5 minutes just to be put on hold again.

during the game at that. idiotic. the game itself was pretty decent. but whoever made the decision on placing the tribute during the game as opposed to after the game needs to be axed. even the TNT crew looked embarrassed about the whole thing. which sucks because they deserved a tribute.

They can do that on their last Thursday night game.

Something that could be fun is to make the ASG a 3x3 tournament.

It would be a 6 teams of 4 players tournament (3x3 teams have one sub).
I came here specifically to say this. Whether its 8 teams in an elimination format (no subs) or 6 teams (with one sub) in a round robin tournament, that would be way more entertaining.

We need to keep in mind that part of the reason dudes don't play hard in the ASG is because there is no reason for them to risk injury (and playing hard is an injury risk, every single game) for a meaningless game. 3 v 3 can make it interesting without requiring that the dudes go all out and start risking getting hurt.

Love how KOC called out Mc and said Castle should have won.

He mentioned Mc beeing no real NBA Player, real NBA players not beeing able to train jumping over cars, him just using props, doing the same dunk again and again...it's just like he is reading ST.

Mac has now made as many dunks in the Dunk Contest as he has Field Goals scored in his "NBA career".

tournament format was better than a 48 minute game where it ends up 220-184 final score

turns out maybe 40 points is too low for the target score

and the production doesnt need to be 3 hours

TNT tribute in the middle of the final game, bookended by commercials on either end, was just ridiculous

Exactly. Maybe play to 50? 60? Have the breaks between games not filled with garbage. Plan something good. It’s almost like no one grasped that even a mini tournament would be much shorter than a regular game, and they were scrambling to fill time. NO CONTENT BREAKS in the middle of the last game. None.

    My takeaways:

    • Donovan Mitc ing sucks. Way to sabotage Wemby's all-star debut, you asshole. His sorry ass should have been benched early on, and he really had no business starting. Second-class all-star.
    • Regarding the skills challenge...it was a bad idea. The thing is, a skills challenge should require skill. If you can win by just randomly throwing balls, then it's not really a skills challenge. If everyone did that, the whole thing would be pointless. This would be easily fixed by requiring a made basket to advance. You should absolutely have to make a shot to move on. If you can't make a shot, you aren't winning a skills challenge.
    • That "tribute to TNT" that interrupted the game for 30 minutes was ing stupid. I seriously thought my DVR ed up and I somehow skipped past the game, but no, it was an actual random ass segment in the middle of a game.
    • After experimenting for so many years now, it would be justified to return to the traditional format. And it would give younger players like Wemby a chance to experience a "real" all-star game the way it used to be done and dominate with 40+ points.
    • If they are going to keep the tournament format, they should play to 60 instead of 40.
    • Donovan Mitc ing sucks.

Great list, and tagging onto this...

Don't let Kevin Hart roast the players with an open mic. Don't even let Kevin Hart in the building.

They want players to take the game seriously, then they let a washed-up midget talk about them over the speakers while they are playing.

TNT and the NBA were seriously tone deaf on this one.

I mean... this is cool... but it's also something that results in a real NBA player getting a stern talking to by his team and his agent.

Might as well just bring out the Globe Trotters for a trick shot compe ion.

I can’t believe mc won three dunk contests doing the exact same thing over and over and over and over again, and kept pushing off for lift. It was cool the first time, but after the 17th time it’s just boring.

Also it is a sign that there are no more new dunks to be done. The payers have exhausted all possible dunks after 49 years of this. Time to move on.

You guys remember when they did the Shooting Stars compe ion? I actually liked that one. Every team featured a current NBA star, an NBA legend, and a WNBA player from the same city. Team SA won it twice in 2006 and 2008.

Team SA 2006: Tony Parker, Steve Kerr, Kendra Wecker
*This team holds the record fastest time with 25.1 seconds

Team SA 2008: Tim Duncan, David Robinson, Becky Hammon

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NBA_Al...rs_Compe ion

I couldn't find a full video of 2008. Let me know if anyone has it.

That's what the fans want. Like I said above, he's gonna make the ASG watchable again.
Yeah. While being disinterested in some must win regular season games

TBH that was his most impressive dunk (even though he didn't stick the landing). At least he actually went OVER the car, instead of just jumping over the hood and then landing on the car like Blake did (who also won).

His others...yeah, more of the same. Oh, I'm gonna jump over this guy on a hoverboard. I'm gonna tap the ball on the rim. I'm gonna dunk two balls. We've seen all that before.
