DOGE Claimed It Saved $8 Billion in One Contract. It Was Actually $8 Million.

The Department of Government Efficiency, the federal cost-cutting initiative championed by Elon Musk, published on Monday a list of government contracts it has canceled, together amounting to about $16 billion in savings itemized on a new “wall of receipts” on its website.

Almost half of those line-item savings could be attributed to a single $8 billion contract for the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency. But it appears that the DOGE list vastly overstated the actual intended value of that contract. A closer scrutiny of a federal database shows that a recent version of the contract was for $8 million, not $8 billion. A larger total savings number published on the site, $55 billion, lacked specific do entation.

The contract, with a company called D&G Support Services, was to provide “program and technical support services” for the Office of Diversity and Civil Rights at ICE. The Trump administration has been purging diversity programs from the federal government.

    ...

Even the $8 million is an upper bound on the amount saved by canceling the contract. Since $2.5 million had already been spent on the contract, according to data on USAspending.gov, that suggests that canceling it saved $5.5 million at most.

A spokeswoman for DOGE did not respond to a request to explain the department’s accounting.

The $7.992 billion mistake was discovered simply because it was the first item The Upshot reviewed, after sorting the list by the savings amount.

They've figured out long ago that their base will believe everything they say. They should have gone ahead and said they've already saved $8 trillion

Well, the DOGE employee auditing the Internal Revenue Service is a software engineer named, Gavin Kliger. Mr. Kliger is tasked with working with the IRS (acting) Commissioner, over the next 120 days, to find inefficiencies, fraud, malfeasance, theft, corruption, etc...

One of the things already discovered - and this will interest those that are all hung up on 1 person at DOGE having access to Treasury data - is that TIGTA (Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration) issued a report on September 9, 2024, in which it was revealed the Biden administration allow up to 919 individuals access to Treasury Data. According to TIGTA, approximately 20 of these individuals were researchers and student volunteers.

I know I can just feel the outrage building against the former President.

I don't know, read the report. To you it may be the who. For me, it's the why.

Just because you don't like Elon Musk does not mean he and DOGE don't have the authority to audit the Treasury books. What DOGE is doing is exactly what President Obama created the U. S. Digital Services to do...make government systems more efficient.

    U. S. DIGITAL SERVICE

    Our mission
To deliver better government services to the American people through technology and design.

Elon Musk doesn't even work for DOGE. It's a sham, point blank, with no oversight and no meaningful plan of action other than destroy the lives of Americans you don't like and plenty you do (or should). You're barely even saving any money - it's clearly about fear and scaring civil servants into never going against anything Trump does, lest they lose their livelihoods.

You're morally reprehensible and a bad person.

Gubmint good now. There was once a time when being a conservative meant having morals, or at least, acting like it.

Now they jump for joy when cancer research gets cut by a guy with 4 baby's mommas and 14 children. Y'all are literally bat crazy insane, morally corrupt, hate everything your savior stands for, and fools to boot.

Conflicts of interest are illegal. That's one reason why Musk is trying to make it clear as possible he's not part of DOGE even though he is.

Why you Trump s put in so much work to shield them is beyond me

Well, the plan is to cut government waste, fraud, and abuse and I'm all in for that.

Elon Musk is a special advisor to the President -- many Presidents before this one has had them. It appears the President has tasked him with organizing DOGE to execute his agenda, with respect to government efficiency. I'm as good with that as Obama was with creating USDS to fix Obamacare and a couple of other government efficiency issues.

As for the estimated 250K federal employees losing their jobs? Yes, it's unfortunate but, industries/businesses change. Think of all the lost employment when car manufacturers left Detroit; or, when government regulations closed down who swathes of industries. The federal government isn't a charity; no one has the right to a government job. If the job is, through an efficiency audit, deemed unnecessary, it would be morally reprehensible to force the U. S. Taxpayer to continue paying their wages.

Your own link, you ing moron.

We determined that all 1,173 CDW users as of April 2024 completed each of the four mandatory
training courses. Per the IRM, Security and Privacy literacy training shall be provided to all
system users and be completed within the following specified time frames:
    • As part of initial training for new users and annually thereafter.
    • Within five days of being granted access to an IRS system.
    • Within 60 days of being granted access to an IRS system, if the user reviews and
accepts the IRS’s rules of behavior within five days of being granted access

Have Elon and his stooges done this?

You believe unknown federal workers properly vetted the 919 (including college kids) who were given access to the data? Okay.

Why not? You said you wanted transparency in the federal government. Why are you so selective with your concern?
Because I don't, Chumpy. Stew on it. Musk hasn't given me any reason to distrust him. Besides, just because they're not genuflecting before the Left and media (damn my redundancy) and answering every stupid loaded question that gets thrown at them doesn't mean they're not following the law.

I'm beginning to appreciate the amount of planning that went into what the President is doing. Using the USDS was brilliant and, by acting fast, it's left the corrupt on the Left and Right, stumbling for ways to stop the effort. The American people support what he's doing. That's good enough for me.
