David’s 40 time is 6.1. Of course he’s 59 years old.
With the NFL combine in full swing, just wondering if anybody here knew of David Robinson's 40-yard dash time. Did the NBA even have a combine at the time he was drafted? Did they even record these things? Just curious.

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
On a serious note, his 40 time in his athletic prime (rookie season we'll call it) would not be near as quick as you think. His top end speed was probably good, but big men are at a disadvantage when it comes to accelerating compared to a cornerback prospect in the NFL. Michael Jordan was very fast for NBA standards but when he went to baseball he was considered slightly below average at baserunning speed. Just different athletes training for different sports.
What's interesting is when I saw the recent 30 for 30 episode on Jordan going to baseball, I thought he looked strangely slow when they showed him running to base. ... I definitely considered D-Rob probably not having a standout 40 time for the reasons you mentioned. But because he was such an athlete I am still curious.
I imagine David's was similar to what Kevin Durant's was. Very similar players with similar body types coming out of school. David didn't shoot a lot of threes because he played in a different era. Even Jordan didn't shoot a ton of threes.
I figure David would be faster because he has long strides. His take off may be a little slower, but I wonder if that is compensated for with stride.
I wont dispute that KD was/is the more technically gifted player (by a fair amount too), but Dave was 10X the raw athlete KD was coming out. Go back and watch the Navy games, Dave was a gazelle.
Also, you would think the Navy would have recorded a 40 time since they are so concerned about metrics as a military branch.
Having been in the Air Force and worked with plenty of Navy guys, both branches back then (and now from what I hear) only cared about push ups, sit ups and timed 2 mile run when it came to physical ability. Had to hit certain numbers on those depending on age/sex to be within standards.
By the time those long strides start to make up for his (relative to top NFL prospects) slower start the 40 yard dash is long over. Just such a short race. I would be very curious to know what kind of time DRob could've run the 200 or 400 meter in given how fast his top end speed appeared to be.
I actually played some pickup ball with Davids (younger I think?) brother like 20ish years ago, it was eerie how similar he looked and moved like David, just like 8 inches shorter.
