I don't think he needs a skyhook per say, but he does need to work on his interior scoring arsenal.

A hook shot, running hook, floater, fade away should all be in his package. I saw glimpses of that at the end of last season, but his game was a lot more perimeter oriented this (truncated) season.

I think Victor needs diversity in his moveset and better balance (prioritize inside, close range then three-point, lastly Mid-Range) in his shot diet.

Interestingly, the French National Team coach had some comments about Wemby today with two notable tidbits:

    1) The coach said he "spoke to Wemby before his surgery" which seems to be the closest to a confirmation that Wemby had a surgery performed
    2) They aren't ruling Wemby out of National Team duty this summer

When his DVT first came to light it was obviously a gut punch. That being said, a small part of me was relieved he had an out from his French National Team participation given how much basketball he has played over the last 2 years.

Oddly enough, now I am starting to come around to actually kind of hoping he is able to play in August with France. He will have not played compe ively for like 5 months by then, knowing what we know of Vic you know he is aching for compe ion. Vic will also have considerable rust going into next season assuming he is medically cleared to go, perhaps working through some of that with the FNT would be good for him and the Spurs.

Thanks. Pretty interesting seeing it in action rather than in highlights where he's makes them all.

interesting decision to take a game from his last season in the NBA when he averaged 10 ppg

its not an "automatic" shot, but its was undefendable. other than the very rare highlight of it getting blocked (famous one where Wilt blocks 2 in a row), you basically take the defender completely out of the equation and it just comes down to whether you make the shot or not. you get good enough at it like kareem did, and you can play until you're 41 and still be effective until nearly the very end

dont kid yourself. this guy was the NBA's leading scorer for a long time. dont take a one game reel at his age 41 season as your counter-argument

Yeah, using a tidbit of KAJ of all players as a negative example (for pretty much anything) seems pretty wild.

I’d be very surprised if Vic doesn’t play this summer

I would argue the opposite: that it was unblockable , but defendable with the right strategy. You just have to bump the skyhook shooter on the floor as he’s spinning into the shot to throw off the trajectory. Don’t even try to block it.

I’m not trying to paint KAJ in any kind of negative light, just perhaps remove some of the hype and mystique surrounding the skyhook. Wemby doesn’t need one, and if you think Kareem got knocked off his track shooting it, Wemby might never make one with his build.

Yeah, I read that yesterday, so it seems like he had surgery which would have explained why he hasn't been on the bench lately as I asked this question a couple of games ago (Why he wasn't there anymore after they said that he really wanted to be with the team when he attended those few games). Having said that, I thought he already had surgery as another poster mentioned that he'd heard Victor was on vacation after the All-Star game and woke up with pain in his shoulder, went to get it checked and was told he had to have immediate surgery (not sure if this also happened and this is a second surgery to correct something?). Not sure what page/thread that post was in.

Yea, I remember reading that post like a week ago. It was a rumor that in all likelihood just wasn't true (friend probably just relayed info wrong, maybe Vic got looked at and "treated" aka blood thinners or an injection to break up the clot). I do appreciate people posting what they hear as rumors true or false can be interesting (shout out Hans Landa).

I agree with you about people posting what they know (Even if it ends up being incorrect. I think the person did say to take it with a grain of salt and it's just what he had heard). That was the post, so you definitely read it too. It sounded pretty credible. I think he said he heard if from a friend who knew someone in the Spurs organization or one of the Spurs doctors. Can't remember exactly. Wish I knew where that post was to go back and re-read it.

I know it's his own personal decision but choosing surgery so he can play for France this summer feels wrong tbh.

I was looking forward to a completely rested and healthy Wemby next year. I get it, I sound selfish, but man.

Wemby went MIA and then the french coach said "he's motivated to be part of the team."

man, doesn't take much to read between the lines.

Did he straight up say "I'm having surgery for a quicker turnaround so that I can play for France! Vive France!?" Of course not.

I'm looking at the big picture, and the fact that he had surgery I think is a good indirect indication of the nature of his illness. I guess we'll say. To me, the surgery suggests thoracic outlet syndrome, meaning that this procedure should hopefully clear him up moving forward in the same way it did for Ausar Thompson. But just me speculating on the information suggested, et cetera.

Assuming the surgery he had was the one to free up the area where the DVT occurred (shoulder), that was always the ideal/expected course of action to treat this. The YouTube doctors were saying to expect that procedure to happen in the near future as well. If team France weren’t playing this summer, this still would have been the remedy used to hopefully prevent this from reoccurring.
