    "pro-natalism conference"

Far-right influencers and eugenicists are hosting a pronatalist conference in Austin this weekend, where I learned there will be ministers on hand to marry people and many of the strategy sessions will focus on matchmaking. The cost is $10K per person: www.wired.com/story/natal-...

Republicans think its ok if credit card companies and big tech give it to you in the shorts

The House of Representatives passed resolutions Wednesday that will nullify two Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) rules. As a result, low-income customers will pay an estimated $5 billion more annually in overdraft fees, and Big Tech will get to pursue its ambitions to make payment apps and other financial services products with little regulatory oversight.

The resolutions, which have already passed the Senate and will now head to President Trump, use the powers under the Congressional Review Act to reverse regulatory actions taken by executive branch agencies submitted after a certain date. Once passed, the CRA resolutions both nullify the rule and prevent agencies from taking “substantially similar” actions in the future. President Trump signed 16 CRA resolutions in his first term, and two so far in 2025.

no longer worthy to partake of the public fisc: sickle cell anemia, birth defects and developmental disabilities

low-key eugenics vibe here, but maybe too racially coded and too DEI too

Republicans' war on civilization is just getting warmed up

Nearly half of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's staff working on developmental disabilities and birth defects was laid off this month, multiple officials tell CBS News, wiping out teams working on research about adults with cognitive disabilities and sickle cell disease

Work likely to be halted by the cuts includes the collection of data for studying Americans with sickle cell, a painful blood disorder that predominantly affects Black families, as well as supporting testing for its more dangerous complications.

"If it is not restored, it will disrupt life-saving public health programs, halt critical research, and increase preventable hospitalizations, complications, and deaths. Its elimination runs counter to the Administration's stated commitment to addressing chronic disease," said Dr. Belinda Avalos, president of the American Society of Hematology, in a statement this week.

Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has expressed openness to restoring some programs he gutted, like the CDC's lead poisoning experts, though for now they have yet to be reinstated.

In addition to the blood disorders division, Kennedy's layoffs wiped out the entire leadership team atop CDC's National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities that housed it. Support staff for the center, as well as its Disability and Health Promotion Branch, were also cut.

That branch had been responsible for a federal database tracking state-level rates of adults with disabilities. Researchers and health authorities rely on the data to target resources where they're needed most, and to study patterns and trends in disabilities.
A now-stalled upcoming release of data had been expected to help shed light on a recent increase in cognitive disability among younger adults, an official said.

"There seems to be a step back to see developmental disabilities, like autism, being only in childhood. The branch provided key public health expertise for disability in adulthood, where people spend most of their lives," said a current CDC official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

in fairness, four House Democrats also voted to make it harder for everyone to vote -- but especially married women, whose names may not match their birth certificates

    others who might be affected:

    US armed forces serving overseas
    adopted
    elderly
    disabled
    first time voter
    don't live in a city
    don't have a passport
don't have access to a birth certificate

election integrity is a moral panic: there currently exists no threat to election security that would be solved by making everyone prove citizenship in order to vote, this is pure voter suppression.

I don’t mean to sound like an alarmist, but I’m starting to wonder if maybe it wasn’t the best idea to give absolute power to an angry, demented simian. We might be in for a rough four years. I can’t imagine anyone standing up to President Donkey Kong, unless some plucky tradesperson can climb, jump, and chase him away, eventually undermining his foundation so he plummets onto his head. But that’d be really hard. I’d give that tradesman three chances at most.

We’ll probably have to wait this out. I just hope President Donkey Kong steps down gracefully when his term is up. For all his rage and self-centredness, I’m sure he’ll follow that rule. If he doesn’t, it’s game over.

PB is correct. He won all 7 swings. He won the House. He won the Senate. He won the Governorships. He won an outrageous % of U.S. counties...89% I believe. He won the popular vote. And throughout the winning he remains a convicted felon.

That old man is one tough cob.

You ed with the wrong White man, children. And are suffering for it now.

Now, like his predecessor Trump has told the SC to bugger off. " this , if Biden can get away with the telling the SC to go themselves, I'm following in as well."

I told ya's I'd test every single solitary water hole from Day 1 and that old man is testing each & every one as prescribed. He's got free reign till at least early January of '27. Thereafter, if we lose the House it is gonna be a blood bath. He'll be like a bull in a China shop and will really want it!

    God's speed.

    ...
Langford said he backs deporting all male immigrants without legal status in the state of California. The GOP candidate for governor added he wants to give women one year to get married or face deportation.

Langford was born in San Jose, California, and graduated from Lake Oswego High School. His professional background includes serving as a construction manager and as the executive director of the California First PAC.

Kyle Langford is among several Republicans vying for the governorship, including Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco, business consultant Sharifah Hardie, marketing agency founder Brandon Jones and Zacky Farms Vice President Leo Zacky.

‘Sickened and outraged’: Va. Lt. Gov. nominee lashes out at Gov. Youngkin amid allegations over sexual posts

    ...
In a video posted on social media Sunday, Reid said he had hoped the Republican ticket would be unified and that he could put the “bigotry and ugliness” of last week behind him. However, he said representatives of his campaign have been repeatedly told by the leader of Youngkin’s political organization that the attacks would continue unless he drops out of the race.

“They were told that if I dropped out of the race, they would purchase the opposition research and the lies and threats against me would suddenly stop. This is extortion, and it is illegal in Virginia. And I am more outraged now. I have engaged legal counsel to pursue all options against these people,” he said.

Reid is the state’s first openly gay candidate from either party for statewide office and previously said his sexual orientation is the reason he’s being targeted.

“The insiders in Virginia politics made a big miscalculation if they thought that I would bow down to anyone or run away scared,” Reid said. “I’m a conservative Trump supporter, and I’m gay, and everybody knows it, because I’ve told you in person and in the media for decades.”

US House Republicans vote against blocking ICE from deporting US citizens

Republicans on the US House of Representatives’ Judiciary Committee universally voted against an amendment on Wednesday that would have prevented Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) from using federal funds to detain or deport US citizens.

Democratic Representative Pramila Jayapal from Washington proposed the amendment to a large budget bill, which was approved in the House of Representatives on April 10. She stated that since President Donald Trump began his second term, “a troubling pattern has emerged with US citizens being detained by immigration authorities,” citing numerous examples over the past few months. Representative Jayapal described this trend as “uncons utional, dangerous, and fundamentally wrong.”
