Beef's issues go back to at least 2014. Bred cow market is collapsing, too much work for historically little payback. Herd is still shrinking and was well before Trump. Cow/calf is not something that can consolidated with confinement or cheap labor easy. History of leaving the livestock group out to dry when it comes to limiting risk/disaster aid. I know guys in their 30's that are cashing out because of the burnout. You'll have a wore out body by the time you're 50. Even with the market in all time high prices THE COW HERD IS STILL SHRINKING. Beef isn't nearly high enough to promote that YET. Guys are going to have to get used to pork and chicken and give up the steaks and burgers.
I just heard a rancher dude talking about this today. Wasn't paying close attention but he was basically blaming it on consolidation of beef processors and imported beef.

Imported beef because of the processors is the band aid over the last ten years, that isn't the problem. Price should have been higher prior to keep guys in the business. Typically there are the cow/ calf guys such as myself. A heifer is about one year when she gets bred. Two years old when she has a calf. That calf takes about a year and a half rough estimate. Guys will typically breed a cow and raise the calf until 550-750 pounds or almost a year old. Then they will go to a feedlot. That's usually a different place. That's where they get pushed hard on feed. Lots of those guys around since it's more tractor work versus manual labor on calving.

Feedlots don't take up alot of real estate compared to calving. You really need pasture and space for that.

China tells US to ‘stop whining’ over tariffs as it reports GDP growth spurt

    ...

On Tuesday evening, China Daily, the ruling Chinese Communist party’s (CCP) English-language mouthpiece, published an editorial saying Donald Trump’s frequent claims of the US being “ripped off” were “hoodwinking the US public”.

“The US is not getting ripped off by anybody,” it said. “The problem is the US has been living beyond its means for decades. It consumes more than it produces. It has outsourced its manufacturing and borrowed money in order to have a higher standard of living than it’s en led to based on its productivity. Rather than being ‘cheated’, the US has been taking a free ride on the globalisation train.”

It added: “The US should stop whining about itself being a victim in global trade and put an end to its capricious and destructive behaviour.”

The news of the new controls came after Sen. Elizabeth Warren urged Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick to impose restrictions on exports of Nvidia's H20 and other advanced AI chips to China.
