A hard turn by an aircraft carrier isn’t enough on its own to cause a $67 million Navy fighter jet to slide off a ship, a Defense Department official said as investigators determine how a plane fell into the Red Sea on Monday.
“Evasive maneuvers against anti-ship missiles (ASM) are not a standard procedure and would not generally be relevant or effective given the great difference in speed between ASMs and ships,” said Jan van Tol, a retired Navy captain and senior fellow at the Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments in Washington.
An aircraft carrier would rely on escorting ships, its own fighters against some threats and/or its own passive defensive measures to provide its best defense, van Tol said in an email.

https://www.newsweek.com/photos-show...eeting-2067034Photos Show Mike Waltz Using Signal in Trump Cabinet Meeting
...
In a Wednesday photo captured by Reuters photographer Evelyn Hockstein, Waltz was seen looking down at his phone while holding it under the table.
The photo shows multiple Signal text messages, including one with a user named JD Vance. Vance is the vice president.
One partially concealed text also appears to show Waltz talking to a user with the name "Gabbard." Tulsi Gabbard is the Director of National Intelligence. A third message shows Waltz communicating with someone with the last name Rubio. Marco Rubio is the secretary of state and will serve as interim national security adviser until Trump taps a permanent replacement.
The photo, taken during Wednesday's Cabinet meeting, comes after the president recently warned his staff about continuing to use Signal following the "Signalgate" controversy, referring to the fallout from journalist Jeffrey Goldberg publishing details of the group chat Waltz included him in by mistake.
Wednesday's photo from Reuters started circulating on social media on Thursday, when reports first surfaced that Trump was ousting Waltz and Wong.

TeleMessage captures chats in the cloud and archives them

A hacker has breached and stolen customer data from TeleMessage, an obscure Israeli company that sells modified versions of Signal and other messaging apps to the U.S. government to archive messages, 404 Media has learned. The data stolen by the hacker contains the contents of some direct messages and group chats sent using its Signal clone, as well as modified versions of WhatsApp, Telegram, and WeChat. TeleMessage was recently the center of a wave of media coverage after Mike Waltz accidentally revealed he used the tool in a cabinet meeting with President Trump.
The hack shows that an app gathering messages of the highest ranking officials in the government—Waltz’s chats on the app include recipients that appear to be Marco Rubio, Tulsi Gabbard, and JD Vance—contained serious vulnerabilities that allowed a hacker to trivially access the archived chats of some people who used the same tool. The hacker has not obtained the messages of cabinet members, Waltz, and people he spoke to, but the hack shows that the archived chat logs are not end-to-end encrypted between the modified version of the messaging app and the ultimate archive destination controlled by the TeleMessage customer.
Data related to Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the cryptocurrency giant Coinbase, and other financial ins utions are included in the hacked material, according to screenshots of messages and backend systems obtained by 404 Media.https://www.404media.co/the-signal-c...es-was-hacked/“I would say the whole process took about 15-20 minutes,” the hacker said, describing how they broke into TeleMessage’s systems. “It wasn’t much effort at all.” 404 Media does not know the iden y of the hacker, but has verified aspects of the material they have anonymously provided.

Hegseth went rogue
Can't stress how dangerous it is to have the Defense Secretary acting all on his own
Trumplandia is in disarray
https://www.reuters.com/world/us/ord...rd-2025-05-06/Roughly a week after Donald Trump started his second term as president, the U.S. military issued an order to three freight airlines operating out of Dover Air Force Base in Delaware and a U.S. base in Qatar: Stop 11 flights loaded with artillery s s and other weaponry and bound for Ukraine.
In a matter of hours, frantic questions reached Washington from Ukrainians in Kyiv and from officials in Poland, where the shipments were coordinated. Who had ordered the U.S. Transportation Command, known as TRANSCOM, to halt the flights? Was it a permanent pause on all aid? Or just some?
Top national security officials — in the White House, the Pentagon and the State Department — couldn’t provide answers. Within one week, flights were back in the air.
The verbal order originated from the office of Pete Hegseth, the secretary of defense, according to TRANSCOM records reviewed by Reuters.
The cancelations came after Trump wrapped up a January 30 Oval Office meeting about Ukraine that included Hegseth and other top national security officials, according to three sources familiar with the situation. During the meeting, the idea of stopping Ukraine aid came up, said two people with knowledge of the meeting, but the president issued no instruction to stop aid to Ukraine.
The president was unaware of Hegseth’s order, as were other top national security officials in the meeting, according to two sources briefed on the private White House discussions and another with direct knowledge of the matter.
Asked to comment on this report, the White House told Reuters that Hegseth had followed a directive from Trump to pause aid to Ukraine, which it said was the administration's position at the time. It did not explain why, according to those who spoke to Reuters, top national security officials in the normal decision making process didn’t know about the order or why it was so swiftly reversed.
The cancelations cost TRANSCOM $2.2 million, according to the records reviewed by Reuters. In response to a request for comment, TRANSCOM said that the total cost was $1.6 million – 11 flights were canceled but one incurred no charge.
An order halting military aid authorized under the Biden administration went into effect officially a month later, on March 4, with a White House announcement.
The story of how flights were canceled, detailed by Reuters for the first time, points to an at-times haphazard policy-making process within the Trump administration and a command structure that is unclear even to its own ranking members.
The multiday pause of the flights, confirmed by five people with knowledge of it, also shows confusion in how the administration has created and implemented national security policy. At the Pentagon, the disarray is an open secret, with many current and former officials saying the department is plagued by internal disagreements on foreign policy, deep-seated grudges, and inexperienced staff.
"Hegseth went rogue"
From your own article...
Can't stress how dangerous it is to be constantly spreading disinformation on a regular basis.the White House told Reuters that Hegseth had followed a directive from Trump to pause aid to Ukraine, which it said was the administration's position at the time.
You said you were leaving last week...obviously just fake news like everything else you post.
Lol still defending Pete
P.S. lol "dangerous it can be spreading disinformation". How about spreading classified information?
