They do not.
They do not want to bring the Mavs to Vegas.
They want to bring Vegas to the Mavs, in a manner of speaking.
My youtube feed is nothing but Dylan Harper breakdowns since monday evening
HAHA
I’m not saying he’ll trade Flagg, at least not now, just that getting lucky in the lottery doesn’t erase a string of dumb transactions. He’s still an idiot, just a lucky one.
Anything’s possible. Never thought luka could be traded in his prime but it happened. You could see it in his face, he was really disappointed that Dallas got the #1 pick
Now this is the big baller move that would make Flagg an instant Legend in Dallas. They might build his statute before he plays his first game.
LMAO spurfan
I say we draft Dylan Harper at #2 and see where the chips fall. I want a young core and then we can build around it with veterans wanting to win 'ships over the next 3-8 years.
Word is that after the Luca trade, ownership reeled in some of Nico's authority. Dallas is absolutely, positively drafting Flagg. And there's NO WAY Flagg is gonna rebuke that.
No happening, playing it nice with Mavs is only business decision he can make
Correct, and that is currently failing miserably.
May change what is built around it but they can probably make the financials of their own arena work either way.
Flagg is one of those prospects where he is essentially too good to pull this off. If he signaled to Dallas that he didn't want to be there Dallas would simply call his bluff and draft him anyway. The only reason Sarr's team was able to redirect him away from Atl is because he wasn't a consensus number 1 pick so Atl figured "fine, lets move on".
The other theoretical lever that Flagg has is going back to Duke for a season but even with NIL that would cost him a considerable amount of money due to losing a year towards his next contract. He would conceivably play 1 less year in the NBA essentially, and that missing year at the tail end could be $80-$100 million by that point in the CBA. Not to mention, if he did go to Duke there is no guarantee he would like his new landing spot would be any better next year.
I know we hate it, but he is going to be a Mav and there are much worse places he could've ended up. They at least have a legit #1 in AD, solid pieces in several positions and a coach who has had recent success as well as no state income tax. I wouldn't trust Nico/the ownership group, but I also expect Nico will be gone by the time Cooper is supermax eligible (he should be an no brainer fun max extension in 3 years).
I'm gonna be honest... as much as I say the Mavericks and our 2030 swap notwithstanding... I kind of like that they are getting Flagg. I want a healthy rivalry with the Mavs, it makes life more fun.
With that said... the NBA has probably got to start thinking about the longstanding power imbalance between the east and west. Maybe it's been long enough that they just figure no one cares... but it ain't changing any time soon.
The Spurs will be back in the east with the next expansion.
Or a couple other current western teams.
Problem solved.
When the league goes to 32 (edited to correct), they'll have to go 8 divisions per conference (or abandon divisions which are kind of meaningless anyway, but I don't think they will)... I think SA/DAL/HOU + OKC/NO will be a group they'll want to keep together. OKC would make the most sense to me... but MEM and NO are kind of odd balls that don't fit in with the rest of the map.
Maybe they just go away from conferences all together... who knows. If it's SEA/LV as expected, the map definitely tilts heavily towards the west from a strictly geographic POV. NO/MEM/MIN seems like the most logical to go East to balance things out if they stick with conferences.

If Seattle and Las Vegas are the two expansion cities, only one team will have to move to the East. Memphis and Minnesota are the most likely candidates.
One thing we're seeing with the flattened lottery is that teams that barely miss the playoffs in the West tend to have better records than low playoff seeds in the East. That gives those low-lottery teams like the Spurs and Mavs a chance to jump, further cementing the West's talent advantage.
I'm totally in favor of scrapping the conferences, balancing the schedule, and seeding 1-16. Maybe keep divisions to have some geographical rivalry, but it shouldn't unbalance the schedule too much.
Minnesota would definitely go East, they travel the most distance and are really close to Central division.
32 team NBA
Pacific Division
LAL, LAC, SAC, PHX, POR, GSW, SEA, LV
Midwest Division
SAS, DAL, HOU, OKC, MEM, NOP, DEN, UTA
Central Division
MIN, CHI, DET, IND, CLE, ATL, CHA, MIL
Atlantic Division
NYK, BKN, PHI, BOS, WAS, ORL, MIA, TOR
Top 8 teams in each conference make playoffs
Division champions get top 2 seeds
Home court advantage by record not seed
Just like before 2004
Come on they don't GAF about the map in sports. I remember when the Atlanta Braves were in the NL West for years.
Could definitely see them moving two of the Spurs/Wolves/Mavs east to get interesting Finals with OKC every year.
Not gonna happen...but Fox plus #2 for Kyrie plus #1 is close enough money wise.
They have gone all-in for AD/now.
I'd seriously consider that trade because Flagg would be perfect with Wemby and Castle, maybe we could flip Kyrie as a sign/trade next yr or just have $40Mish million in capspace to absorb salaries...but not gonna happen
For the record with all these stupid responses. I want Dylan Harper. I was just making a point about what happened last year. If Flagg and agent wanted to go that course they could obviously. The Sarr situation was the litmus test and NBA did nothing about it. Opened Pandora’s box. Everyone just too stupid to realize it. Media, this board etc. I was just making a factual point.
Mavs got a major present. They needed that in the worst way. I don’t think they screw up that bad a second time.
Damn. Let's see Flag play half a season before we build a shrine.
Maybe they trade him to LA for Hachimura.
