Incredible trade for Memphis. Orlando doesn’t realize yet that Paolo-Franz is not a good long term solution. That 2026 suns pick on its own is worth its weight in gold
They think they're going to be Celtics 2.0, with four secondary creators, five out spacing (even though Bane is the only spacer) and no defensive liabilities.

The difference is, Banchero profiles as closer to Randle than Tatum 2.0, Wagner (who has developed a mental block/hitch) is an even worse shooter than Brown and they don't have a White, which is to say a high IQ "role player" with borderline All-NBA impact to tie it all together.

Yeah I pretty much agree with all this, except I'd say that Franz is a much closer analogue of Tatum as a supersized creator who's role malleable, while Paolo is more like their Jalen Brown, guy who can "get you a bucket in crunch time" but whose advanced metrics don't match up to his eye test or reputation. I assumed that they're getting Bane to be their Derrick White honestly.

    Suggs-Jrue
    Bane-White
    Franz-Tatum
    Paolo-Brown

Interesting tidbit from the Game theory podcast today. Sam Vecenie mentioned that he believes the Spurs and Thunder could be going after the same player or type of players at 14 and 15. He thinks the thunder will use both of their 1sts to jump ahead of the Spurs if possible. He then immediately says Cedric Coward would be the pick for the Thunder. Goes on to say Cedric Coward dominated Nique Clifford at a workout he attended. Says he is one of the most compe ive players in this class. Thinks he will bulk up and play Power Forward eventually. I agree.

That said if Cedric Coward is dominating workouts I highly doubt he makes it to pick 14. Vecenie thinks the Spurs might get wiped out and trade out of pick altogether. Kick the can down the road for a future 1st.

He also says he highly doubts the spurs pick a big in the 1st because he believes the Spurs want to keep Wemby at the 5 because of the mismatches it creates. Basically says drafting a big at 14 would be bad value because they would only play 18 minutes per night max. If that theory plays out the 2nd round could be where the Sours search for a back up big or perhaps in free agency.

If all that ends up being true that significantly reduces the player pool at 14. It might end up being draft Nique Clifford or trade out. I like Clifford but doubt he would be picked by Brian Wright because of his age.

If the Spurs are out on bigs at 14 the board for me would basically be:

    Coward
    Essengue
    Clifford
    Demin
    Trade back
    Trade out

Final tally from June 15 NBA Draft International Withdrawal deadline

    Staying in:

    Noa Essengue
    Joan Beringer
    Hugo Gonzalez
    Nolan Traore
    Ben Saraf
    Noah Penda
    Hansen Yang
    Alex Toohey
    Bogoljub Markovic
    Rocco Zikarsky
    Dink Pate
    Izan Almansa
    Saliou Niang
    Mohamed Diawara
    Eli Ndiaye

Disappointed to see Neoklis Avdalas and Mouhamed Faye Drop out. This class got even weaker. Spurs should still just make it in at 38 before the fault line. The middle to late part of the 2nd round is looking pretty weak now.

Vecenie was a guest on an Athletic podcast yesterday going over his recent mock that had Beringer at 13 before his measurements came out, now with the measurements he's saying he's seriously considering ranking him above Malauch. And that he of course might be moving up in mocks.

So if the Spurs want him, who would be an ideal trade partner to move up from 14?

I don't think they move up to get a backup player. As badly as the Spurs need a center, it's still a position with reduced playing time.

I don't think there's a realistic way to move up ahead of the Raptors that will obviously pick him if he's available.
Nets have nothing and want to take the BPA swing.
Pelicans need a point guard or a center, we have neither to trade. I doubt they'd be interested in an additional pick if it's not the Hawks one.
Wizards want to take the BPA swing much like the Nets and they won't be interested in any of our mediocre players.

#3-5 would cost too much to move up other than some unlikely scenario in which we take PG's horrible contract, which shouldn't even be considered.

Like everyone else said, it's hard to see a good trade partner to move up with. I guess if someone like Washington or Brooklyn likes Keldon you might send Keldon +14 +a couple 2nd's to move up. In Brooklyn's case we could free up some salary.

there's no way Keldon ends up in Brooklyn. He hates New York.

Keldon has a farm with chickens and so on in San Antonio and he hates to live in the city. He's a dude who has embraced the country side. So when the Spurs played the Knicks and the Nets, word is he said he doesn't like NY. And the Spurs will not trade him there, cause that's not what they do.

He doesn't have to live in the city. Just like most cities, there's non-cities outside the city limits.

Addressing the center position should be in their list of priorities but there's plenty of centers that can be had in this draft without moving up, like Beringer, Sorber, or even moving down like Kalkbrenner, or taking a flyer in the 2nd round like Niederhauser or Hansen Yang.

I seriously doubt that matters as much as you think it does. His chickens aren't going to hold up a deal. Now I doubt Brooklyn wants this deal, but if they offered #8 for #14 + Keldon then be in Brooklyn.

Fun to watch these guys rearrange the chairs, but it feels like two franchises moving forward with fatally flawed centerpieces. Paolo for me has too many issues to be a #1 option on a championship team, and someone I equate with a Carmelo or an Iverson in terms of true impact. Orlando thinks they have their Duncan/Dirk/KG, but I think they're far away from that. JJJ, with his 7'5" wingspan, rebounding like a SG is kinda tragic to watch. It's close to unbelievable that Desmond Bane and his 6'4" wingspan actually averaged more rpg than JJJ last year. Toss in Ja's immaturity and a handful of late first round picks, and I don't see them doing too much serious harm either.

NYC is different. It takes ages just to get out of the city and then to any farmland is even longer.
