we've been that for a while. Who else would gift Zach Collins 35 million dollars, Josh Primo 10 million, Doug McDermott the highest salary of his life, etc. etc.

Yeah, maybe. Does he have any say in the matter if he's traded elsewhere (apart from not signing an extension?). The phase 2 thing, though, not sure where I heard that before (maybe I dreamt it). I'm sure I read or saw something somewhere about them moving onto a phase 2.
Just as I suspected. It would be incredibly ballsy for 1) a team to give up substantial pieces for a player that has made it clear he doesn’t want to be there…especially a veteran and future HOFer like KD, and 2) Phoenix to ship off a future HOFer after said HOFer made it clear he didn’t want to go there.
Relationships in this league matter. There’s a certain level of respect guys like KD garner due to their tenure and status. It’s not like they’re trading away some 25 year old who had a few good seasons. I really think they will do right by KD regardless of the current reporting…and again, if KD’s team is over there communicating to teams like Minnesota/Toronto telling them to back off, then I just don’t see them ignoring that request.

I like Barnes as much as anybody here, but the Spurs don't have a trove of assets. They need to monetize a veteran on an expiring. Business never personal.
Hey, I wouldn't be so harsh on the Primo deal. How would the Spurs know that Primo wore short shorts without underwear, especially when they refused to listen to the female therapist's complaints.
50 Mills, Demarre Carroll, making Vassell the highest paid Spur ever, picking up options a year early for Branham/Wesley etc etc
Mostly agree, but at least in the case of the Timberwolves, the Suns could spin it as them giving him a chance to compete for a championship (even though I'd argue they wouldn't be legit contenders).
Yeah. They said both Houston and San Antonio’s standing offers are non starters got them. They’re asking a lot from what I’ve read and it doesn’t sound like Miami has made an offer yet. They may be waiting till the dust settles before seeing what they need to beat. So far word is the wolves have the best offer on the table and that’s sad considering what they have to offer. SA or Houston could trump their deal easily but I read they’re basically demanding #2 or Castle in any deal with us.
I don't think KD would extend with Houston or Miami either....
from KDs perspective i think Miami makes more sense than Houston
Herro and Bam are good players who can take a lot of offensive pressure off KD, whereas in Houston, they are going to lean on Durant to carry their scoring load quite a bit. its going to be a lot of pressure on him and he's going to have to really grind to help that team win games.
but if he just has an affinity for texas thats another thing
Houston's biggest selling point is Ime tbh. Outside of Ime, the Rockets dont make much sense for Durant IMO.
Miami makes zero sense. He has to be close to Austin to promote his WNBA expansion team. This is all planned for life after basketball. The Spurs play 2 games in Austin every season. Austin ain't far from San Antonio. The G-League team is in Austin. Just him attending games will give attention to that franchise. Then add him bringing Wemby to games. That's the whole gameplan, which is why he wants to go to the Spurs, among other reasons.
He'd be the number one option on the Heat and the Rockets. On the Spurs he won't.

I mean just looking at it very simply: they were just the #2 seed and most of their core should be better next year (Amen, Sengun, Jabari). Swapping out Jalen Green for KD is a pretty major upgrade for them. Good coach in Ime + would land him in Texas which seems like something he wants.
I’m biased so obviously I think SA gives him a better chance of contending next year + also gets him back to Texas (and closer to Austin, presumably where he’d like to be). But I can see why Houston makes sense.
Agreed. Media is being shortsighted because the Rockets are better than the Spurs at the moment, but with or without him, the former lacks the infrastructure and upside of the latter.
He's fringe All-NBA caliber, not MVP caliber anymore or the "closer" (on an aspiring championship contender) the Rockets need.
The Spurs have both of those things or will in short order, to render him more co-star and finisher than creator.
Miami is the one that makes less sense to me. Even ignoring any of the geographic/off-court stuff, I just really don’t see Miami being a threat in the East next year even with KD playing at the level he was at last year. Maybe I’m selling them short or underestimating how Spoelsta could utilize a player like KD, but just seems like their supporting cast is a clear step back from Houston/SA’s.
I guess the East is wide open enough to where anything could happen, but if his focus is being on the best team next year Miami is a clear 3rd behind the two Texas teams.

It’s pretty obvious what’s going to happen next. Houston and San Antonio are going to posture and posture, and then come draft night, which is Phoenix’s declared deadline for the Durant trade, they’re going to give their best offer (along with all the other teams), say take it or leave it, and the Suns will pick the best one.
