Elon Musk's X lost 11 million users in the EU over the past 5 months

    ...
This week, X published its April DSA transparency report, the first of 2025. The report covers October 2024 through March 2025.

The latest report shows that X's user base in the EU has declined by more than 10.5 percent since its October 2024 report, which covered the previous period between April trough September of that year.

X saw the biggest decline in France with a loss of more than 2.7 million monthly active users, dropping from 20.1 million users to 17.4 million users in between this transparency report and the last. X also lost nearly 2 million users in Poland, close to 1.5 million users in Germany, and more than 1 million users in Spain. As Social Media Today points out, the small countries of Luxembourg and Lithuania each saw a quarter of their X users leave the platform.

Tesla (TSLA) sales continue to crash in Europe despite new Model Y

    ...
In France, Tesla reportedly delivered only 863 vehicles in April. That’s down 59% year-over-year and down 24% from the first month of Q1 2025.

In Denmark, the automaker has delivered only 180 vehicles in April. That’s down a staggering 67% compared to April 2024 and 59% from January 2025, when Tesla did not yet have the new Model Y.

In Portugal, Tesla delivered only 239 vehicles in April based on registration data – down 47% year-over-year and down 39% from the first month of Q1 2025.

More data from European countries is expected to be released in the coming days, with the full dataset to be made available later this month.

In Q1 2025, Tesla’s 37% decline in sales in Europe coincided with a 24% surge in battery electric car sales.

Tesla's refresh to best-selling Model Y SUV starts on rocky road

    ...
Supplies are not tight. The refreshed version is available immediately in many parts of the world, with some units already available in Tesla's inventory. That is a far cry from the long wait times typically seen for the previous Model Y, which was the highest-selling car in the world last year.

In fact, overall Tesla sales in Europe continued to plunge in April across key countries, data showed this month. Sales in China dropped over 8% last month, data from the China Passenger Car Association showed on Sunday.

"Short delivery wait times, low-interest loan offers, and weak April registration numbers in China and Europe all point to soft demand for the refreshed Model Y in key markets," researcher Troy Teslike, who follows Tesla, told Reuters.

A slow kickoff for the Model Y - which Tesla has blamed on retooling needed at its factories for the revamp - piles fresh pressure on the company to launch its long-promised cheaper models.
After Tesla reported its first drop in annual deliveries last year, Musk pulled back his forecast of a 30% increase in vehicle sales this year and said simply that Tesla would return to growth. Last month, Tesla said it would revisit that forecast in three months in light of "shifting global trade policy." After a 13% drop in first-quarter vehicle sales, analysts expect Tesla deliveries to fall again this year.

Exclusive: Musk took leased cars back so Tesla could use them as "robotaxis." Instead, Tesla sold them

May 15 (REUTERS) - Tesla last November ended an unusual policy that prohibited U.S. leasing customers from buying their cars at lease-end.

The policy started in 2019, when Tesla announced that customers could lease its mass-market Model 3 sedans but would have to return them, at the end of the lease, for use in Tesla's planned "robotaxi" network.

"You don't have the option of buying," Chief Executive Elon Musk said at an investor gathering in California in April 2019. "We want them back."

"Next year, for sure," he added, "we'll have over 1 million robotaxis on the road."

None of that would prove true. Despite repeated promises, the robotaxis never came. Tesla instead found an unusually lucrative way to make money by flipping many of the off-lease cars to new buyers, according to four people familiar with Tesla's retail operations.

BYD sells more electric vehicles in Europe than Tesla for first time

BYD has sold more electric vehicles in Europe than Tesla for the first time, marking a breakthrough for the Chinese group’s efforts to expand into overseas markets.

BYD registered 7,231 fully electric cars in Europe last month compared with 7,165 registrations for Tesla, according to Jato Dynamics, the automotive data intelligence firm. Tesla’s monthly volume was down 49 per cent year-on-year, while BYD reported a 169 per cent jump.

The Chinese group’s registrations including plug-in hybrids soared 359 per cent.

The Chinese group’s aggressive expansion into Europe has coincided with a slump in sales for Tesla due to its ageing product portfolio and a backlash to Musk’s intervention into regional politics.

    world-historical scammer

Tesla’s warranty strategy isn’t just aggressive—it’s algorithmic warfare against its own customers. A California class-action lawsuit alleges the company uses predictive software to inflate odometer readings by up to 117%, voiding warranties prematurely and forcing owners into $10,000 repair bills. And if the Courts find it to be systematic? Global? Based on the lawsuit data, the total estimated annual financial benefit to Tesla is about $3.99 billion.

Tesla starts accepting Cybertruck trade-ins, confirms insane depreciation

    ...
When Tesla started production and deliveries in late 2023, the vehicle was significantly more expensive and had less performance than initially announced.

At one point, Tesla boasted having over 1 million reservations for the electric pickup truck, but only about 40,000 people ended up converting their reservations into orders.

Now, Cybertruck inventory is sitting unsold for months and Tesla is having to offer heavy discounts to move them.

    ...

Tesla sold a brand-new 2024 Cybertruck AWD Foundation Series for $100,000. Now, with only 6,000 miles on the odometer, Tesla is offering $65,400 for it – 34.6% depreciation in just a year.

Pickup trucks generally lose about 20% of their value after a year and 34% after about 3-4 years.

It’s also wroth nothing that Tesla’s online “trade-in estimates” are often higher than the final offer as noted in the footnote o fhte screenshot above.

xAI to pay Telegram $300M to integrate Grok into the chat app

Telegram has struck a partnership with Elon Musk’s AI company, xAI, to distribute the latter’s chatbot, Grok, via Telegram and integrate it into apps available on the chat app’s platform for one year.

xAI will pay $300 million in cash and equity to the chat app as part of the deal, Telegram’s CEO Pavel Durov said on Tuesday.

Durov said Telegram will also earn 50% of the revenue from xAI subscriptions purchased through the app.

Earlier this year, xAI made the Grok chatbot available to Telegram’s premium users. It seems Grok might now be made available to all users.

A video posted by Durov on X suggested that Grok can be pinned on top of chats within the app, and users can also ask questions to Grok from the search bar. Notably, Meta has also integrated Meta AI into the search bar on Instagram and WhatsApp.

GM takes over as the ‘#1 EV seller’ in Canada

    ...
GM’s electric vehicle sales in Canada surged by 252% in the first three months of 2025, with new Chevy and Cadillac models driving growth.

The Chevy Equinox EV led the way with 1,892 units sold, followed by the Silverado EV with 894 units. Cadillac’s new entry-level OPTIQ had a strong showing, with 615 models sold, nearly matching the 720 units sold of its first EV, the LYRIQ.

Even the GMC Hummer EV Pickup and SUV saw more demand, with sales up 232% (186) and 88% (252), respectively.

Combined, the automaker sold a total of 5,750 EVs in Q1. According to GM, this was enough to top Tesla to become “the #1 EV seller in Canada.”

GM Canada recently posted on social media, saying, “We claimed the top spot as Canada’s #1 EV seller!” The news comes as registration data show that Tesla registered just 524 vehicles in Quebec in Q1, down 87% from the same period last year.

Tesla becomes desperate with Cybertruck, launches biggest discount yet

Following the unveiling of the Cybertruck in 2019, Tesla reported having ac ulated over 1 million reservations for the highly anticipated electric pickup truck.

However, after launching the production version in 2023 at almost twice the price and with less range than previously announced, the vehicle program became a total flop.

Tesla had planned for a production capacity of 250,000 vehicles per year at Gigafactory Texas, and CEO Elon Musk said that he could see the automaker doubling to half a million trucks per year.

However, Tesla ended up having issues selling 40,000 Cybertrucks in its first year, and the delivery rate fell even further in 2025 with inventories piling up.

To address the demand issues, Tesla began throttling down production earlier this year and offering deeper discounts on its new vehicles.

Today, Tesla announced its biggest Cybertruck discount yet: 0% APR financing for those who order the truck with its $8,000 Full Self-Driving Package.

Tesla Misses Robotaxi Launch Date, Goes With Safety Drivers

Tesla’s much-anticipated June 22 “no one in the vehicle” Robotaxi launch in Austin is not ready. Instead, Tesla has announced to its invite-only passengers that it will operate a limited service with Tesla employees on board the vehicle to maintain safety. Tesla will use an approach that was used in 2019 by Russian robotaxi company Yandex, putting the safety driver in the passengers seat rather than the driver’s seat. (Yandex’s robotaxi was divested from Russian and now is called AVRide.)

Having an employee on board, commonly called a safety driver, is the approach that every robocar company has used for testing, including testing of passenger operations. Most companies spend many years (Waymo spent a decade) testing with safety drivers, and once they are ready to take passengers, there are typically some number of years testing in that mode, though the path to removing the safety driver depends primarily on evaluation of the safety case for the vehicle, and less on the presence of passengers.

Tesla has put on some other restrictions--rides will be limited to 6am to midnight (the opposite of Cruise’s first operations, which were only at night) and riders come from an invite-only list (as was also the case for Waymo, and Cruise and others in their early days.) Rides will be limited to a restricted service area (often mistakenly called a “geofence”) which avoids complex and difficult streets and intersections. Rides will be unavailable in inclement weather, which also can happen with other vehicles, though fairly rarely today. Tesla FSD is known to disable itself if rain obscures some of its cameras--only the front cameras have a rain wiper. The fleet will be small.

Tesla Pauses Texas Gigafactory Production of Model Y, Cybertruck Amidst Slowing Demand

Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) is one of the best QQQ stocks to buy according to hedge funds. On June 17, it was reported that Tesla is implementing another production halt at its Gigafactory in Texas, which will affect the Model Y and Cybertruck production lines. This shutdown is slated to begin on June 30 and extend through the week of the July Fourth holiday. It will mark the second such pause at the facility in 2 months and the 3rd in the past year.

The production halts come amid mounting pressure on Tesla due to slower demand and increasing inventory levels. Earlier in June this year, reports indicated that Tesla was renting overflow parking lots across the US to store unsold vehicles, which included Cybertrucks. Cybertruck production has already been scaled back in 2025, with sales tracking at about half of the previous year’s figures, despite the introduction of cheaper variants, eligibility for federal tax credits, and increased discounts.

Tesla Robotaxi Incidents Draw Scrutiny From US Safety Agency

    ...
The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is aware of the incidents that were captured in videos posted on social media and is gathering additional information from the company, the agency said in a statement to Bloomberg. NHTSA officials regularly interact with automakers on safety matters, and it’s common for those discussions to stop short of a formal investigation.

“Following an assessment of those reports and other relevant information, NHTSA will take any necessary actions to protect road safety,” the agency said on Monday.

Tesla’s shares fell as much as 1.4% in postmarket trading after Bloomberg reported NHTSA’s discussions with the company. The stock was little changed at 5:33 p.m. in New York.

In one video taken by investor Rob Maurer, who used to host a Tesla podcast, a Model Y he’s riding in enters an Austin intersection in a left-turn-only lane. The Tesla hesitates to make the turn, swerves right and proceeds into an unoccupied lane meant for traffic moving in the opposite direction.

Oregon Tesla sales are down 17% this year

Oregon car buyers appear to be tuning out Tesla.

New Tesla registrations fell 17% through the first five months of the year compared to the same period in 2024, according to data from the Oregon Department of Transportation.

Teslas accounted for nearly half of all Oregon electric car sales as recently as 2023. Now, Teslas represent just 1 in 6 new electric vehicles in Oregon.

The rapid reversal mirrors a broader trend. Tesla’s revenues from vehicle sales fell 21% in the first three months of the year.

regulators on alert after one day

Federal safety regulators have reached out to Tesla a day after the automaker began providing rides in its branded robotaxis in Austin.

The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) contacted Tesla after numerous videos posted online appear to show Tesla robotaxis violating traffic laws in South Austin, where the company is providing rides to invited customers. Bloomberg was the first to report that the NHTSA reached out to Tesla. The NHTSA confirmed to TechCrunch that it has contacted the automaker.

I don't think it's a coincidence the program started when the weather is usually quite clear.

The testing starts ~9:00. LIDAR is going to be an expensive but necessary retrofit. There's just no denying it.
