The Mavericks don't have much choice with Irving injured and their retro roster construction, but Flagg masquerading as an offensive "engine" while Davis simultaneously does likewise primarily as a four next to two vertical spacing fives, is a recipe for a bottom feeding half court offense.

Despite the hype, I don't see Flagg ever becoming that. He looks like an elite complementary star in the making, a souped up Siakam.

Even if he's more so Tatum, a popular comp, that's nowhere near a "generational prospect".

Meanwhile, Harper looks as advertised, which is a classic offensive "engine" in the making.
I don't get them saying he can play point. He can't. He's not a great ball handler or playmaker, isn't great at creating offense for himself. He's going to be really good and those things may develop, but right now to me he's as you suggest, a superior complementary player whose defense and other skills are going to be a high level. Just watching him in college you couldn't see a playmaker yet.

Just now tuning into the replay (am at the 8 min mark in Q2) and here are my early observations, looking forward to catching up on the thread later.

    1. Ron Harper sitting next to Keldon and the rest of the Spurs players... are our respective bodies and minds ready for Ron Harper, Super Spurs Fan?

    2. Absolutely LOVING Carter Bryant's defensive intensity and hustle. We've only seen this from a perimeter player since Kawhi left with Sochan and maybe Castle's first month. If he just does this and can be in the right spot up spots for 3s, he'll earn minutes as a rookie.

    3. Dylan looks smooth... Smooth like Butter since we had Mark Jones announcing.

    4. Is Jones-Garcia signed yet?!?

    5. Cooper looks rough so far. This forum would be on suicide watch if we had lucked into #1 and he was putting these performances up for us (but we'd still be okay)

    Sign and trade Fox anyone?
It would be considered double-dog dirty by every NBA player from now to eternity. But . . .

That's the league now. Damn near every non C hyped prospect, especially of his magnitude, is shoehorned into being an offensive "engine".

That's the product of four decades (started with Jordan) of hyping, marketing and mythologizing this archetype. Most of these kids think it's the only way to be recognized as a great player and in part to appease them, teams force it and end up with them being overstretched and developing bad habits as opposed to developing secondary skills first.

Ingram is living proof the spurs front office knows what they’re doing every time they give away a second round draft pick.

I've attended both of his games thus far.

Cooper Flagg is the best player in this tournament hands down. Period.

That made me chuckle. It's hard to make 1st rounders to work out let alone second rounders. Ya got a point.

Any time someone mentions trading Fox after he forced a trade to the Spurs (again a sticky need to be put up) needs some time with that guy in your avatar.
He hasn't even played a full season yet with the Spurs. The only way he's getting traded is if he asks for it.

He’s fine but he’s practically played every minute of the games too. I doubt there’s anyone else playing close
to his minutes. Basically coaches told the team cooper is going to play every minute of the game and either shoot the ball or pass the ball for the shot. If you aren’t up for this game plan get the out.

How was today’s game a rough performance for Cooper? Yeah, he had some bad possessions, but he was clearly the star of the game. Head and shoulders above the rest (with exception to Harper on minutes restriction)

Still don't understand the infatuation with trading Fox. Noone on the team besides Wemby comes close to the gravity and impact as Fox does. Everyone on the team, including Wemby, play a much easier game with Fox in. Whether they're all compatible etc comes down to people accepting roles with two stars in the lineup but man Castle is good but still not near Fox. Harper isn't near him either. They'll both get their minutes. Vassell and Johnson are the ones who are taking their development time and opportunities if anyone is. Fox makes them better.

I think he had just watched the first part of the game where CB had pretty well shut down cooper to start.

Feel like DJG has been asked to do something different tonight; he is taking extra dribbles now into the paint and hesitating instead of shooting.
Thought the same thing like they told him they wanted to see how he distributes more this game than his offense. It was affecting his decision making

The way the team has subs uted in these two games makes me think they want to win (vs just evaluating).

As I posted in the post you quoted, I wrote that with 8 minutes remaining in the 2nd quarter. He looked a lot better after that

But but but Brian sucks as GM because he doesn’t turn SRPs into hall of famers like Manu!

    Thanks for the sobering perspective.

It's really not the amount of minutes Flagg plays.

    It's the eyeball test.

Like CB defence but he will be fouled out in 5 mins. He needs to learn how to play suffocating defence and stay in the game.
