Good get on a two-way, tbh. He needs to work on off-ball and his passing and he could really stick.
Congrats to SpursTalk for manifesting this, tbqh

He is more of a scoring PG than a passing PG. He did make some nice passes that didn't result in assists thanks to missed shots. He also forced some passes that turned into horrible turnovers.
When he is decisive, his game flows nicely. He doesn't turn it over much. However, early in the last few games he started a bit indecisive and got into trouble. He made poor passes. He dribbled into the crowded paint and had the ball stolen multiple times.
Playtime in Austin will allow him to hone his PG skills, improve his decision and play making.
This was a great move by the Spurs.
ace3g doesn't typically stick his neck out there with a full-blown thread and a prediction, but props to him for having the foresight to know when to do it
sorry to burst everyone’s bubble but this actually shows what the Spurs are likely to do with him
Being on a two way actually means he’ll barely play on the main squad lol
and it means he has a small chance of ever converting that two way to a regular contract
and if it does convert, it won’t be until a year or two from now
I mean sure, it's sort of disappointing from the sense of it meaning the Spurs seemingly don't view him as worthy of a Champagnie-type deal or anything along those lines...but regardless, I'd rather him be on a two-way with us then some other team. I don't think he's some guaranteed legitimate NBA-caliber guy but he clearly showed enough in SL and deserves an opportunity to prove himself.
Champagne started as a two way, and got converted. Bassey started as a two way, and got converted. Both of them outlasted a pair of first round picks. You gotta earn it, though. 4 good games out of 5 in SL ain’t enough. You have to show the work ethic and NBA game.
I don't think most are asking anything else, but it's a low risk move with some upside that is likely better than the alternatives in sight, so I'll take that.
You never know what the roster looks like in two or three years. Ome, two or maybe all three of Fox, Castle and Harper could be gone. Folks are thinking too much about how he fits with the current squad. He'll probably get a bit of time unless there are major injuries. That's fine. They already have a vet for immediate depth.
No. He tried to be a facilitator for at least one game. It was not good. He's a scorer. He should get spot minutes when the team needs offense and be hidden the rest of the time. Role playing scorer.
Since DJG is signed to a two way, that leaves two roster spots for at least 1 or 2 more bigs. (Please spurs, no Bassey or Biyombo again)
Well you guys wanted him and you got him! Enjoy it.
Hope it works out and he actually gets some time on the court. We could certainly use someone averaging greater than 50% from three lol.
At least he's in the pipeline. I'm just glad he didn't go to another team. I think the point is he forces you to give him more with his play so it's perfect because he either earns it or Spurs cut ties at minimal risk.
He’s going to be hidden most of the year in Austin.
Glad to have him signed but kind of surprised he wasn't able to get a guaranteed NBA deal anywhere.
Even if it was over 3 years it was 2.2 million Euros tax free. That would equate to earning about $1.3 million per year in the US.
I love that DJG is betting on himself and wants a chance to play on the biggest stage. I hope it works out for him. He's not in it for the money, obviously.
Why not? End of bench guys should be easy contracts to move that bring good vibes and hard work. They both fit that. Spurs hardly play real minutes to guys past the 10th spot. They have played their bench more the past few years more due to everyone being a teenager than anything tbh. They have a real roster for once in a long while. Couple stars are going to get plenty of minutes.
OK, I keep seeing this, and it needs to be addressed. If you’re a US citizen working overseas, you still have to pay taxes to Uncle Sugar. If Greece had taxed him, that bill could be applied towards his US taxes, but you still gotta pay.
End of bench guys are great to have. Like you said, they bring good vibes and hard work - just not these two end of bench guys. Bassey was injured a lot and Biyombo did what he could and provided great energy off the bench for an end of career guy. My guess is that they go with 2 more durable and younger guys. By the way - I would have loved to have Biyombo back - if he was 5 years younger.
As a 3rd center, why does Biyambo have to be 28 instead of 33? He came in and did a great job, vacuuming up boards at a 23.4 DRB%.
Possibly, but the Spurs need one guy to hit open jumpers. He can do that. If someone gets cute and thinks he needs to bring up the ball or play defense, I'd Rather have him in Austin.
Yeah, worst case scenario was they showed little to no interest in signing him because of fit, he goes elsewhere, becomes a rotation player within' a few years and they look like fools.
I don't get this. I understand anything could happen in 2, 3, 4 years, but I don't think anyone is looking at a scenario of Castle, Harper being gone, or even Fox at these early stages (maybe in 3+ years time), and if so, why do we need to look at how DJG fits with a squad a few years down the line? I don't think he's that big of a difference maker when comparing to Castle, Harper, Fox to be looking at how he fits down the line if any/all of them are gone. I don't even want to think about a scenario of any or all of them being gone. I want them to succeed with the Spurs.
The issue with the BAE is that a team can't use it 2 years in a row.
If Spurs want to use it to sign/trade for a player, they have to think too at the 2026/27 season. Could they need the BAE next season? What will be their financial situation regarding the cap/tax/apron?
It's not like the MLE where it is: use it or it is wasted. Using the BAE could negatively impact the 2026/27 season and I guess Spurs won't use it on a marginal trade/FA.
