Didn't Finley technically retire in Boston though
Barnes is a good dude though. Wish he wasn't forced to start but he's good player to have around our young guys regardless
I just went through all the forum pages up until he got signed and it's embarrassing noone actually made a topic.
Anyhow, Spur for life, tbh:
As I said when we got him, he'll be our next Finley and retire here. I expect him to get a team friendly extension and move to the bench when we finally get some spacing on the wings.

Finley didn’t retire here. He weasled his way to Boston to try to get another ring.
I like HB, but to even pencil him in as a Spur for life isn’t wise. He was a fortunate salary dump that worked out. If the right trade materialized, he’d be gone before training camp.
Damn, you guys have to take everything out of context.
Let's just say I expect Barnes to spend the rest of his remaining years as a useful player with the Spurs.
I'm biased because I was suggesting Spurs should get him long before the trade happened, but when it did, I think there weren't any realistic trade scenarios in which he was involved other than the KD trade.I like HB, but to even pencil him in as a Spur for life isn’t wise. He's maybe even the best lead by example veteran in the league and an archetype that will always be useful.
Spurs desperately needed leadership last year and they still do. Right now it's still just Fox.
Yeah, Kornet is 30 and he's won a championship, but he's never been anything more than a third big for the Celtics.
Extension in 3, 2 …
In all seriousness, he’s a great dude. Would love to keep him around another 2-3 years.
Untouchable outside of a trade for all-nba potential player
I like Barnes' fit and he seems like a great guy, but Spurs should absolutely consider moving him if it lands them a long term piece, Barnes is 33 and already a few steps behind defensively, and that isn't going to get better. So if a good deal comes the Spurs' way which requires he be included (for salary matching purposes or plain fit), then you have to do it. He isn't going to be relevant by the time the Spurs are again contending (at least 2 years).
He‘s gon be on the trade block at the deadline together with Keldon and Olynyk
Yeah,I don’t think it’s an accident that we have some decent sized ending contracts.
Isnt KJ contract two more years?
not sure where you guys get your info but this is ^ ridiculous
absolutely ridiculous
Anyone hoping Spurs will get another long-term $30M+ a year player is in for a disappointment.
I'm not saying Barnes, Keldon and Olynyk can't get traded for players on similar contracts, but Fox's extension kicks in 2026 and Wemby's kicks in 2027, we're not getting another expensive contract. Especially if at least one of Castle/Harper is on all-star trajectory. It's all about depth.
We'll replace current role players with better ones.
There is nothing wrong with always trying to "get the next all star"...
but those three players mentioned and their specific roles for this currently constructed team fit pretty well.
The roster is pretty balanced right now - as is - and this 24/7 - nonstop-trade this for that- is just insane imo.
His is,but HB and KO are both ending, and total $32M.
