who's running the show?
likes to make decisions all on his own
https://www.cnn.com/2025/07/08/polit...-weapons-pauseSecretary of Defense Pete Hegseth did not inform the White House before he authorized a pause on weapons shipments to Ukraine last week, according to five sources familiar with the matter, setting off a scramble inside the administration to understand why the halt was implemented and explain it to Congress and the Ukrainian government.
President Donald Trump suggested on Tuesday that he was not responsible for the move. Asked on Tuesday during a Cabinet meeting whether he approved of the pause in shipments, Trump demurred, saying only that the US would continue to send defensive weapons to Ukraine. Pressed again on who authorized the pause, Trump replied, “I don’t know, why don’t you tell me?”
The episode underscores the often-haphazard policy-making process inside the Trump administration, particularly under Hegseth at the Defense Department. The pause was the second time this year that Hegseth had decided to halt the flow of US weapons to Ukraine, catching senior national security officials off guard, sources said.

The rebels said in a statement: “We will continue our military operations in support of the oppressed Palestinian people… until the aggression against Gaza stops and the siege is lifted.”
In May, the group agreed to halt attacks on US warships in the Red Sea after more than a month of airstrikes by US forces on its strongholds and missile infrastructure.
But it did not pledge to end attacks on other shipping with alleged connections to Israel, and the two incidents over the past few days have intensified fears of a renewed shipping crisis on the vital global trade route.

Good god what a moron
Hegseth ordered to stop giving polygraphs at the Pentagon
Sounds like not a very good leader
https://www.rawstory.com/hegseth-white-house/Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth received a sharp phone call from the White House over his wide use of polygraphs at the Pentagon which infuriated one official with close ties to Donald Trump advisor Stephen Miller.
After six months, Hegseth has continued being a problem for the Trump administration from his "Signalgate" scandal to canceling a shipment or arms to Ukraine without notifying the president or the State Depatment and now infuriating Pentagon denizens with his obsessive search for leakers.
On Saturday, the New York Times reported that Hegseth was on the receiving end of a "rare intervention" from Gen. Dan Caine, the current chairman of the Joint Chiefs, over fury at the refusal to promote Army officer Lt. Gen. Douglas A. Sims II, because Hegseth believed he was a leaker.
Now, on Sunday, the Washington Post is reporting Hegseth's fear of leaks reached the point where the White House felt compelled to intervene.
According to the report, "Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s use of polygraph tests to search for people leaking information to the news media was stopped at the direction of the White House after a senior adviser to Hegseth raised alarm to senior officials there about being targeted."
At the center of the pushback is Hegseth advisor Patrick Weaver, who is close to Miller, who grew angry upon hearing he himself might be put on the spot.
That led to a previously unreported call from the White House for the defense secretary to stand down.
The report adds, "The polygraphs came during a period of tremendous upheaval in Hegseth’s inner circle that includedthe defense secretary’s firing of three senior Pentagon appointees in April and accusing them of leaking to the media. The aides — Dan Caldwell, Colin Carroll and Darin Selnick — disputed that and accused the Pentagon of slandering them. Hegseth’s team has presented no evidence to back its claims."
when the DOD bans 600 books, that's just government free speech, and it trumps yours
https://www.military.com/daily-news/...t-schools.html"Government speech is immune from scrutiny under the First Amendment's Free Speech Clause because when the government engages in speech, it is cons utionally permissible for it to select the message it wishes to convey," Justice Department lawyers wrote in a motion last month seeking to have the lawsuit against the bans dismissed.
doesn't sound like Hegseth's management style is very effective
https://www.rawstory.com/hegseth-pentagon-revolt/As the Times' Greg Jaffe, Eric Schmitt and Helene Cooper reported, after Sims was cleared of allegations of leaking, Hegseth agreed to the promotion only to later change his mind.
"Mr. Hegseth’s sudden reversal prompted a rare intervention from Gen. Dan Caine, the current chairman of the Joint Chiefs. He urged Mr. Hegseth to reconsider," the Times is reporting before adding, "Mr. Hegseth met with General Sims one final time but refused to budge."
The report notes that the latest clash with the generals is part of a growing problem as questions grow about the embattled secretary's performance.
"Mr. Hegseth’s actions could shape the military’s top ranks for years to come. His insistence on absolute loyalty, backed with repeated threats of polygraphs, also creates uncertainty and mistrust that threaten to undermine the readiness and effectiveness of the force," Pentagon insiders told the Times.
With the report noting that firings and resignations have left Hegseth with a "skeleton staff of civilian aides to run his office," the report adds, "The infighting, investigations and personnel churn have strained Mr. Hegseth’s ability to manage critical operations in the Pentagon."
The Times is reporting that Pentagon officials have grown weary of Hegseth's continual photo-ops, noting, "including one that he posted from Omaha Beach in Normandy in which he joins Army Rangers carrying a soldier on a stretcher as part of D-Day remembrances — are distractions that serve primarily to bolster his image."
Hegseth getting itchy feet, according to secret Pentagon sauces
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world...un/ar-AA1JAymePete Hegseth is reportedly mulling running for Tennessee governor amid continued strife at the Pentagon.
The US defence secretary has privately discussed running for office in the state with two individuals, sources told NBC News, one of whom said their conversation took place in the last few weeks.
Mr Hegseth is under pressure over a watchdog report expected to be released within weeks into the “Signalgate” fiasco, in which he accidentally leaked US military plans to a journalist.
That sounds about right
"Hegseth attended service at church of ‘Christian nationalist’ pastor who doesn’t think women should vote and wants US to be theocracy.."

A drunk misogynistic extreme evangelical that doesn't know what the he's doing. Sounds about right for this administration.
Pete still there and doing just great
And that's after giving away top secret info. Go figure.
Hegseth sounds kinda unstable and apparently his wife is a major presence at the office

TSA likes him because trans people and women scare TSA.
He'll be running for potus in no time
so apparently the new military policy is black man grow beard is unacceptable lack of discipline but you can beat your wife as a treat.
Hegseth basically called the generals together to harangue them about grooming and physical fitness, and to announce the resegregation of US armed forces -- the clear subtext is that women and blacks are no longer welcome, and that anyone who discriminates against women and blacks will be protected by Hegseth.
The ostensible endpoint is building an army that will follow orders to shoot Americans
That whole thing could have been an email with a poop emoji.

"Hey Mr. Kegs-breath, thank you for making my job and my mission easier! Before we fire a single shot, your troops (and your country) is divided, hates each other, labels each other, betrays and reports on each other, accuses each other, will never trust each other again and now your new trainees will be thoroughly abused before even earning their stripes. Thanks Petey!"
Some of the so-called "woke" soldiers are some of the best trained soldiers ( & - some are not) and some of the "tough" guys become cowards in battle and panic in a crisis (some are actually tough soldiers) ...so you never know.
