The Trump administration said Tuesday it will use tariff funds to keep afloat a federal food assistance program for nearly 7 million pregnant women, new moms and young children during the government shutdown.


The program, known as WIC, was expected to run out of money soon because Congress has yet to approve a federal spending package for fiscal year 2026, which started on October 1. The National WIC Association has predicted that the program’s funding would last only a week or two into the shutdown.

ABC News reported Friday that Bondi was reportedly "caught off guard" by the news that Halligan indicted New York Attorney General Le ia James (D) on Thursday. Senior Department of Justice (DOJ) leadership hadn't been informed that Halligan was presenting evidence to a grand jury until after the fact.


During a Friday interview with CNN host Brianna Keilar, former U.S. attorney Harry Litman (an appointee of former President Bill Clinton) argued that the details over James' indictment were growing "stranger and stranger," especially with the news that Halligan had been apparently keeping Bondi "at arms' length."


"All the evidence seems very strong that it was directed or it was in order to satisfy Trump's urge for a reprisal prosecution," Litman said. "Lindsey Halligan is his private attorney. Did she just completely bypass DOJ leadership and go directly to the top? That would be very anomalous and improper."

As Litman mentioned, Halligan is a former insurance lawyer whom Trump ended up hiring on his legal team in the case involving his alleged mishandling of classified do ents at Mar-a-Lago. That case never went to trial, as U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon (who Trump appointed to a lifetime post in 2020) dismissed the charges in July of 2024. This means Halligan – who also indicted former FBI Director James Comey in late September — has almost no courtroom experience, and is nonetheless reportedly keeping the DOJ in the dark about criminally charging Trump's political opponents.



"Anyway you slice it, something really weird happened here," Litman said. "Possibly she wants Bondi to have deniability, but we're going to have a focus here as we did in Comey about the reasons for doing this prosecution. Was it reprisal or not? And that's gonna engage leadership of DOJ, if she somehow did this on her own."


"Remember, she has zero experience. She doesn't know where the door is," he added. "That's gonna be, funky would be the legal term. Just really nuts."

The state’s two largest airports, one of which is the operational hub for “ICE Air”, cited policies barring political advertising to explain why they are not playing a video of U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem blaming the ongoing federal government shutdown on Democrats.


Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport and Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport both confirmed to the Arizona Mirror that they are not displaying a video of Noem that was promoted by the White House as being played at “every public airport in America.”


Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport plays a crucial role in the Trump administration’s deportation efforts. The airport hosts the operational hub for Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s “ICE Air” operations, which deport and shuttle immigrants across the country.


Airport spokesman Ryan Smith confirmed to the Mirror that the video is not currently displayed at the airport due to the Mesa Gateway Airport Authority Board policy, which states that “(a)dvertising that discusses the topics or subjects of politics or religion, social society, or economics is prohibited.”


“Consistent with airport policy, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport declined to post the video,” Jon Brodsky, a spokesman for the state’s largest airport, told the Mirror. Sky Harbor also has a policy that does not permit political content.


And Tucson International Airport also confirmed to the Mirror that it is not playing the video. Not only does it also ban advertisements — even from the government — that focus on political speech, but the airport does not have screens in the area DHS requested the video be played.
